Late Spurt Lifts Rollins To Opening Win.

 Down one with 1:04 to go the Rollins Tars scored the games final eight points to secure a 75-68 win over Benedict in the South Region crossover at Warden Arena. With the win Rollins improves to 1-0 while Benedict drops to 0-1 in defeat. 

 The trio of Kyle Marion, Hutton Yenor, and Sergey Grishaev combined for 60 of the Tars points in the victory. Marion paced the Tars with 26 points- Yenor added 18- and- Grishaev added 16 in the win. The Tars shot 42 percent as a team- 25 percent (7-28) from the 3-point line- and- 73 percent (16-22) from the free throw line. 

 The Tigers were led by Tahj Green with 22 points and 16 rebounds- Timothy Bing added 18- and- Marshaun West added 10. Malachi McCoy narrowly missed a double-double scoring nine points and pulling down 11 rebounds. The Tigers shot 34 percent from the field- and- went 3 of 22 from the 3-point line. They shot 68 percent (15-22) from the free throw line. Benedict did win the rebounding battle 54-38. 

 Both teams got off to a slow start offensively but after a Yenor 3-pointer and a bucket by Matej Susec it was 12-2 Tars. The Tigers would score the next seven points, before the next six went the way of the Tars. A pair of Bing 3-pointer's would pull the Tigers within one (18-17) with just under seven minutes in the first half. The Tars would go back up double digits after a pair of Marion free throws made it 29-19 with 4:17 in the opening stanza. The lead would grow to 13 a couple times, and the Tars would take a 12 point lead (38-26) into the locker room. 

 Rollins shot 39 percent from the field, and 25 percent from the 3-point line in the first stanza. Benedict shot 28 percent from the field- and- made just two 3-pointer's in the first half. 

 Benedict would come all the way back and tie the game at 45 with 12:06 to go. The two teams would go back and forth until a Brooks Cluxton gave Rollins a six point lead (58-52) at the 7:14 mark It was a one point Rollins lead (62-61) before a traditional three-point play by Grisahev. Bing hit a 3-pointer but Grishaev would answer with a jumper to make it 67-64. Benedict would score the next four points and lead 68-67 after a McCoy dunk at the 1:25 mark. Kyle Marion knocked down a 3-pointer and then the Tars would come through at the defensive end and get some key stops down the stretch. Five of six at the free throw line down the stretch secured the 75-68 win for the Tars. Auburn Montgomery was a 83-81 winner over Florida Tech in the opener. The Tars will face Auburn-Montgomery tomorrow. Tip time is set for 4:30 PM at Warden Arena.
