Tars Drop One At PBA Saturday.
The Rollins College Tars coming off a 10 point win over #2 Flagler earlier the week would not be able to carry the momentum as they would fall 79-71 to Palm Beach Atlantic at Rubin Arena Saturday night. With the loss Rollins fell to 3-1 on the season (0-1 SSC.) With the victory PBA improved to 2-2 (1-0 SSC).
The Sailfish scored the first four to start this one and Rollins led 12-10 before a 10-0 run by the Sailfish put them up 20-12 after a Nate Ward layup at the 9:55 mark of the opening half. The Tars would score the next five but the Sailfish would stretch the lead back to seven (27-20) at the five minute mark of the opening half. It would be 31-27 in favor of PBA at halftime after a Dayton Gunn dunk pulled the Tars within four.
A Yenor jumper and a Will Erickson 3-pointer would give Rollins the lead with 18:52 to go. The Tars led by four (38-34) after a Gumm bucket but a 16-0 surge by the Sailfish capped by Alexander Gorton basket made it 50-38 with 12:38 left. A Potter 3-pointer at the 7:45 mark would cap a 12-3 Tars surge to make it 53-50 with 7:45 on the clock. The next seven points would go the way of the Sailfish to get the lead back to double digits after a Will Lee 3-pointer at the 6:27 mark. Marion would hit a pair of Rollins 3-ball's to get to within five (63-58) 3:43 to go but that is close as they would get. The Tars would get to within six one more time with 23 seconds and again at 10 seconds but the Sailfish closed it out at home.
Gumm led the Tars with 15 to go along with six assists and five rebounds, Marion, and Potter each tallied 13 while Yenor scored nine. The Tars shot 38 percent from the field, 33 percent (14-43) from the 3-point line, and went a perfect five of free at the free throw line. They had 17 assists and 19 turnovers in this one.
For the Sailfish Jasmin led the way with 22, Will Lee tallied 14, Cooper added 13 and nine rebounds, while Jakob Hester added 11 to go with 10 boards.
PBA shot 44 percent from the field, 26 percent (7-27) from the 3-point line, and 56 percent (14-25) from the free throw line. PBA dominated the boards 49-38. They had 18 assists and 17 turnovers in the contest.
