Hot Shooting Powers Tars To Convincing Win Over Southern.

 What a difference a holiday break can make. The Rollins Tars who scored just 40 points in 40 minutes last time they played (against Montana State Billings in Vegas) closed the year with a convincing 96-77 win at Jenkins Field House on Friday. With the win Rollins improved to 7-6 (2-3 SSC) while the Mocs lost their third straight and fell to 5-8 (2-3 SSC.) 

 After trailing 5-4 early the Tars went on a 12-0 surge to go up by 11 (16-5) after a Kyle Marion 3-pointer with 12:54 in the opening half. The Rollins lead would grow to 16 (25-9) after Hutton Yenor layup with 11:04 in the first stanza. FSC would then go on a 12-0 run of their own to cut the lead to four (25-21) after a DeAndre Campbell 3-pointer with 7:45 in the opening half. The Tars would again stretch the lead to double digits (34-24) after a Yenor jumper with 5:39 in the half. The Tars lead would grow to 15 (39-24) before a mini run by the Mocs would cut the lead to single digits (39-30) after a Jack Kasale 3-pointer with 4:08 in the half. The Tars would close the half on a 9-0 run in the last 4:08 to take a 48-30 lead at the half. 

 The Tars shot 56 percent from the field, 50 percent (6-12) from the 3-point line, and 50 percent (2-4) from the free throw line in the opening half. The Mocs shot 37 percent from the field, 42 percent from the 3-point line (8-19,) and 25 percent (2-8) from the free throw line in the opening stanza. 

 The Tars led by 12 (58-46) early in the second half before a Marion 3-pointer and a Brooks Cluxton layup made it 63-46. The Tars lead would be stretched to 21 (77-56) after a Cade Long 3-pointer with 10:57 to go. The Rollins lead grew to as many as 28 (96-68) with 2:22 to go. The Tars would come away with the 96-77 win. 

 Rollins was led by Yenor with 24 points as he went 11-19 from the field and 2-4 from the free throw line. He added nine rebounds and six assists on the day. Marion broke out of a shooting slump going 8-16 from the field and 3-6 from the 3-point line and a perfect three of three at the free throw line. Marion added six assists and five rebounds. Cade Long came back from injury to score 15 points in 19 minutes, while Cluxton went 8-11 from the field on his way to 16 points and 12 rebounds. Rollins shot 56 percent as a team, 48 percent (11-23) from the 3-point line, and 56 percent (5-9) at the free throw line. 

 FSC was led by Casale who made six 3-pointer's on his way to 18 points, DeAndre Campbell added 16, Xavier Rhodes tallied 14, and Tarik Mcelphin netted 13. The Mocs shot 41 percent from the field, 34 percent (15-44) and 36 percent (4-11) from the free throw line.
