Rollins Heads To Lakeland As They Renew Rivalry With Southern To End 2021.
The Rollins College Tars and Florida Southern Moccasins will renew the oldest rivalry in the Sunshine State Conference when they battle at Jenkins Field House at 4 PM on New Years Eve. Rollins (6-6 1-3 SSC) is coming off a pair of losses in the Holiday Hoops Classic in Las Vegas prior to the holiday break losing to top ranked Lubbock Christian and Montana State Billings. The last win for the Tars came against #12 Barry in the last Sunshine State Conference game they played. The Tars average 78.8 points per game, while they give up 79.8 points per contest. The Tars shoot 48 percent from the field and 37 percent from the 3-point line on the season. They shoot 77 percent as a team from the free throw line. The glass is a place where the Tars have struggled as they give up 3.2 more rebounds than the opposition (34.3-37.5.) They average 17.5 assists a game as a team, while they get 7.8 steals per night. The Mocs have picked up three of their five wins at home this season. FSC is averaging 80.9 points per game while they allow 80.1 points per contest. The Mocs are shooting 44 percent from the field, 36 percent from the 3-point line, and 67 percent from the free throw line on the year. The Mocs are being out rebounded by 3.1 (37-40.1 rebounds per night) for the season. They average 16.3 assists per game but struggle to take care the ball turning it over 17.8 times per night. Four FSC players average double figures on the season led by Xavier Rhodes who is averaging 15.3 points per game, Jack Cassie gets 13.3 per night, Tarik Mcelphin gets 13.1 per contest, and EJ Damberville scores 11.6 points per game. Damberville leads the team in rebounding at 11.5 per night, while Rhodes leads the team in assists getting 58 in 11 contests.
