Tars Fall Against Tech.
The Rollins College Tars ran into a buzz saw Saturday as they fell 92-77 to the Florida Tech Panthers at Warden Arena. With the loss the Tars fall to 5-4 and 0-3 in the SSC, while the Panthers improve to 8-1 and 3-0 in the SSC with a eighth consecutive win.
Hutton Yenor led the way for the Tars with 25 points, Dayton Gumm added 17, while Brooks Cluxton tallied 14 points and 11 rebounds. Rollins shot 43 percent from the field, 31 percent (11-36) from the 3-point line, and 62 percent (8-13) from the free throw line. They had 14 assists and 12 turnovers in the contest.
Sean Houpt led the Panthers with 32, Mekhii Noble added 20, Sesan Russell had 17, and Nial Harris netted 11. The Panthers shot 51 percent from the floor, 48 percent (14-29) from the 3-point line, and 76 percent (16-21) at the free throw line. The Tars led 11-7 early after a Yenor 3-pointer. The Panthers would then go on a 12-0 run to go up 17-11 after a Houpt layup at the 12:58 mark. It would be 23-19 halfway through the half. After back to back Russell 3-pointers the lead was 10. The lead would grow to 16 (49-33) at the halftime break.
The Panthers would come out firing in the second half and they would cruise to victory. They would lead by as many as 21 but the Tars would get no closer than 12 the rest of the way.
