Rollins Nips Tech On The Road.

 The Rollins College Tars ran their win streak to five as they nipped Florida Tech 67-65 Saturday at the Clemente Center in Melbourne. With the win Rollins is now 12-9 and 7-6 in the SSC. The Panthers fell to 9-9 and 3-7 in the SSC after the defeat. 

 After Hutton Yenor scored the first basket of the game the Panthers would reel off the next 10 points as a Sean Houpt 3-pointer gave them a 10-2 lead nearly three minutes in. It was 16-10 in favor of Tech nearly four minutes later. It was 31-18 FIT with under five to go in the first half. After being down 36-24 the Tars would score the last nine points of the half capped by a Kyle Marion 3-pointer that cut the Panthers lead to 36-33. The Tars shot 38 percent from the floor and 33 percent (5-15) from the 3-point line in the opening half. They were 3-3 at the free throw line. 

 Florida Tech shot 42 percent from the floor, 32 percent (6-19) from the 3-point line and 50 percent (2-4) from the free throw line in the opening stanza. The Panthers came out hot in the second half scoring the first nine points to go up 45-33 after a Niall Harris jumper at the 17:06 mark. The Tars would chip away at the lead and get to within five (48-43) after a Yenor hoop with 13 minutes to go. Down seven at the 11:15 mark the Tars would go on a 13-0 run capped by a a pair of Cade Long buckets that made it 58-52 Rollins with just over six minutes to go. A Houpt 3-pointer at the 4:11 mark trimmed the Rollins lead to one (58-57) before Long and Season Russell traded triples. After a pair of Yenor free throws the Panthers again got to within one, but a jumper made it 65-62 with 1:37 to go. A Russell layup with 36 seconds again cut the lead to one, then Brooks Cluxton gave the Tars a three point lead with seven seconds on the clock. With two seconds left Russell made the first free throw and missed the second as Cluxton grabbed the miss as time expired. 

 Yenor led Rollins with 23, they also got 10 from Cade Long, while Marion netted nine. Brooks Cluxton added eight points, 14 rebounds, and seven assists in the victory. Rollins shot 41 percent as a team, 27 percent (6-22) from the 3-point line, and were a perfect 11 of 11 at the free throw line. They had 22 assists and 10 turnovers in the contest. 

 The Panthers were paced by Houpt with 17, Russell added 14 points, seven assists and six rebounds, Harris added 13 and 12 boards, while Mate Papai had 12 points and 11 rebounds. The Panthers shot 45 percent from the field, 32 percent (10-31) from the 3-point line, and 50 percent (5-10) at the free throw line. They had 21 assists and 16 turnovers as a team. 

Rollins will be back in action on Wednesday when they host Florida Southern. Tip time is slated for 7:30 PM.
