Tars Host PBA Saturday.
The Rollins College Tars will host the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish at Warden Arena inside the Alfond Sports Center on Saturday. Jim "Shooter' Ferro and Robert Siegel will be on the call on 91.5 FM WPRK and on the Sunshine State Digital Network. Tip time is slated for 4 PM.
The Tars (9-9 4-6 SSC) are coming off of back to back overtime wins in the last seven days. They defeated Saint Leo last Saturday on the road 90-83 before picking up a 84-81 win in overtime at home against Eckerd on Wednesday night. In the win on Wednesday night the Tars had four players score in double figures paced by Kyle Marion's 28 points. Hutton Yenor netted 22 and joined the 1,000 point club in the contest. Both Cade Long and Brooks Cluxton scored 14, as Cluxton also pulled down a team high 14 rebounds. The Tars shot 38 percent from the field, 29 percent (10-34) from the 3-point line, and 77 percent (26-34) from the free throw line.
On the season Rollins 79.7 per contest, while they are giving up 80.7 per night. They shoot 48 percent from the field and 37 percent from the 3-point line on the season, as well as shooting 75 percent from the free throw line. On the boards Rollins is being out rebounded by 3.4 (34.7-38.1) rebounds per night. Yenor leads the team in scoring at 19.4 points per contest while Marion puts up 18.8 per night. Cluxton also averages in double figures at 10.7 points per game and leads the team in rebounding hauling in nine per contest. Dayton Gumm leads the team in assists at 3.9 per game.
In the first meeting between the two teams in West Palm Rollins was a 79-71 loser. Gumm had 15, while both Marion and Cody Potter tallied 13.
The Sailfish (5-11 5-5 SSC) have lost threee straight and are coming off a 90-85 loss to #25 Barry on Wednesday. Jules Jasmin led PBA with 20, Will Lee scored 17,Jakob Hester tallied 16, and Nate Ward chipped in 11 in the narrow defeat. The Sailfish shot 53 percent from the field, 32 percent (6-19) from the 3-point line, and 63 percent (15-24) at the free throw line. PBA averages 73.2 points per game while they allow 78.1 per contest. They shoot 48 percent from the field and 36 percent from the 3-point line on the season. They also shoot at a 67 percent clip from the free throw line and get out rebounded by 3.9 (33.4-37.3) boards per night. Lee leads three Sailfish in double figures averaging 13.5 points per game on the season, Jasmin puts up 13.2 per night, and Hester scores 10.6 per contest. Jasmin leads the team getting 4.8 rebounds per game while leads the team in assists at four per night. In the first meeting back in November Jasmin had 22, Lee scored 14, Jalen Cooper netted 13, and Hester tallied a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
