Yenor,Marion Propel Tars To Overtime Win.
Hutton Yenor scored 28 points and Kyle Marion scored 25 as the Rollins Tars picked up a 90-83 overtime win over Saint Leo at the Father Marion Bowman Activities Center on Saturday. With the win Rollins improves to 8-9 and 3-6 in the SSC. After the loss the Lions fall to 6-9 and 2-6 in the SSC.
It was Saint Leo who jumped out to a 13-2 lead to start this one. It was 22-6 Lions after a Wade Coomer 3-pointer at the 12:32 mark of the opening half. The Lions led 29-14 before a 7-0 Tars run cut the lead back to single digits. Rollins would pull to within three (33-30) before the Lions scored the last bucket of the first half to take a five point lead into the locker room.
Rollins shot 43 percent in the opening half, 25 percent (2-8) from the 3-point line, and 80 percent (4-5) at the free throw line.
The Lions shot 45 percent from the field, 33 percent (6-18) from the 3-point line, and 50 percent (1-2) at the free throw line in the first 20 minutes.
The Tars would pull to within two (43-41) after a Dayton Gumm 3-pointer and Tyler Woods would knot the game at 43 with 14:38 on the clock. The two teams would trade buckets, then the Lions would score the next five to take a 50-45 advantage. Rollins would then go on a 13-0 run capped by a Marion 3-pointer to take a 58-50 lead with 9:42 to go. The lead was nine after a Marion 3-pointer but then the Lions scored the next eight points. A Yenor layup made it a three point game but Wade Commer would tie it with a 3-pointer at 6:25. The game would again be knotted at 65. Marion would go on a four point run of his own but Saint Leo would tie the game at 69. After another Coomer 3-pointer and a Frank Webb free throw the Lions led by four. Yenor would score, the Tars would get a stop at the other end and Marion would calmly knock down a pair of free throws with six seconds left in regulation. Leo had a chance to win it but Webb missed a layup to send the game into overtime.
Yenor would score the first four points of overtime but Saint Leo would again knot the game at 77 with 3:18 in the extra session. Yenor would hit a pair of jumpers and Cade Long made a layup to put the Tars up six (83-77) with 1:53 on the overtime clock. Rollins would ice this one at the foul line down the stretch.
Along with Yenor and Marion, Long had 13, and Gumm had 11. The Tars shot 59 percent from the field, 33 percent (6-18) from the 3-point line, and 70 percent (14-20) from the free throw line. They had 21 assists and 14 turnovers in the contest.
The Lions were paced by Coomer with 27, Francis Sio had 15, and Frank Webb netted 13. They shot 48 percent as a team, 36 percent (12-33) from the 3-point line, and 69 percent (11-16) from the free throw line. They had 22 assists and 21 turnovers in the contest. Saint Leo won the rebounding battle 38-26.
Rollins will be back in action Wednesday when they host Eckerd. Tip time is slated for 7:30 PM.
