Tars Come Up Short At NSU.

 The Rollins College Tars hung with the #1 team in the nation for most of the day but ultimately it was the Sharks who came away with the 79-73 win. Nova Southeastern improves to 23-0 and 17-0 in the SSC after the win. Rollins fell to 14-13 and 9-10 in the SSC after the loss. 

 NSU jumped out to a 7-0 lead to start the contest. After a Johnathan Pierre 3-pointer NSU took a 18-6 lead. The Tars got to within seven (20-13) after a Yenor jumper at the 11:05 mark of the first half. Down 25-16 Rollins would get a jumper by Yenor, a 3-pointer by Cade Long,  triple by Kyle Marion,  a 3-ball by Yenor and a Long layup to take a 29-25 lead with 4:04 in the half. Long hit a 3-pointer and a jumper by Yenor gave the Tars a 34-27 lead with 2:22 in the opening stanza. The Sharks would close the half on a 7-0 run to knot the game at 34 as the two team headed to the locker room. The Tars shot 56 percent in the first half, 55 percent (6-11) from the 3-point line, and 0-3 at the free throw line in the opening stanza. NSU shot 48 percent from the field, 20 percent (2-10) from the 3-point line, and and 89 percent (8-9) from the free throw line. 

 The two teams would go back and forth to start the second half until Rollins went ahead 51-46 after a Long basket at the 13:15 mark. NSU would tie the game at 55 on a Mike Moore 3-pointer with 10:20 to go. After a pair of traded baskets Nick Smith hit a 3-pointer for NSU to give the Sharks a 60-57 lead with just under eight minutes to go. The Sharks lead would grow to six (66-60) after a RJ Sunahara slam with 3:32 on the clock. A Yenor layup with 2:29 left on the clock pulled Rollins within two (68-66.) After Sunahara and Brooks Cluxton traded baskets it was still a two point game with 1:12 to go. Eddie Puisis made a layup for the Sharks with 53 seconds remaining, Long missed a 3-pointer for the Tars and Smith split a pair of free throws. The Sharks would close it out at the free throw line and stay perfect on the season. 

 Rollins was led by Yenor who went 12-17 from the field on his way to 32 points, Long added 18, and Marion scored 10. Rollins shot 50 percent from the field, 35 percent (7-20) from the 3-point line, and 78 percent (14-18) at the free throw line. The Tars had 16 assists and 17 turnovers as a team. 

 Nova was paced by Sunahara with 23, Sekou Sylla added 18 points and 10 rebounds, Puisis netted 14, and Smith added 13 to go with six rebounds and six assists. The Sharks shot 52 percent from the field, 32 percent (7-22) from the 3-point line, and 84 percent (16-19) at the free throw line. The Sharks won the rebounding battle 33-23. They had 20 assists and 14 turnovers as a team. 

Rollins will be back in action Saturday when they close the regular season at Lynn. Tip time is slated for 4 PM.
