Tars Battle AUM In South Region Crossover.
The Rollins College Tars open the 2022-23 season when they take on Auburn University Montgomery in the South Region crossover tomorrow night in Columbia, South Carolina. You can catch all the action on 91.5 FM WPRK and worldwide on the SSC Digital Network with Jim "Shooter" Ferro and Robert Siegel on the call. Tip time is set for 5:30 PM.
Rollins is coming off a 14-15 season which included 9-11 in SSC play last year. They scored 78.9 points per game while they allowed 80.3 points per night. They shot 47.7 percent from the field and 36 percent from the 3-point line last season. The duo of Hutton Yenor (21.2 points per game) and Kyle Marion (17.2 points per night) are the top returning scorers. Marion led the team in assists a season ago and Yenor is the top returning rebounder. Also back from last season's squad are Cody Potter, Cade Long, Rivers Lenholt and Sergei Grishaev. Tom Klusman returns for his 41st season on the sidelines for Rollins. Kyle Frakes is back for his 33rd season as an assistant coach while former Rollins player Kevin Hogan joined the staff in the 2018-2019 season.
The WarHawks are coming off a 12-16 season last year which included a 9-11 record in the Gulf South Conference. They scored 73.5 points per game while they allowed 74.1 per night. They shot 45 percent from the field and 32.6 percent from the 3-point line on the season. James Graham is the teams top returning scorer at 12.5 points per game. He also led the team in rebounding at 7.7 per contest.
The two teams met in the same event last season with Rollins rolling to a 101-77 victory. The Tars had six players in double figures in that contest led by 15 points from Grishaev. Rollins also opened the 2019-20 season versus AUM and won 76-71.
