Tars Tripped Up By Eagles.
The Rollins College Tars (1-2 0-1 SSC) fell 88-82 to the Embry-Riddle Eagles at Warden Arena Saturday. Hutton Yenor led the Tars with 22 points- Matheus Silvera had 17- Kyle Marion tallied 16- and- Cade Long netted 14 in the loss.
ERAU (3-0 1-0 SSC) was paced by five players in double figures. Jack Dillard and Danny Sully each scored 13- Chris Murray netted 12- while Jon Allesandro and Michael McCalister each scored 11.
Rollins jumped out to a 13-7 lead early on after a Marion layup at the 15:26 mark of the opening half. After a Yenor hoop three minutes later the Tars led by 12 (25-13.) The Eagles went on a 8-0 run to cut the lead to four (25-21) at the 10 minute mark of the first half. The Tars would stretch the lead 10 (33-23) after a Yenor 3-pointer at the 7:57 mark of the first half. Again ERAU would battle back and would cut the deficit to two (39-37) after a Sully layup with 5:20 in the opening frame. The Tars would take a five point lead (51-46) into the locker room.
After a Long 3-pointer three minutes into the second half Rollins had a 58-50 lead. A 9-0 run by the Eagles would give them the lead back before a Brooks Khalert 3-pointer and a jumper by Long would give the Tars a four point lead. That lead would be short-lived as Dry Nickson and Dillard would hit 3-pointer's. The game would remain on the see-saw for a few minutes and would be knotted at 72 after a Jared Berry free throw for the Eagles. ERAU would take a 77-72 lead but the Tars would come back and after a Marion 3-pointer the game would be tied at 77 with 4:30 on the clock. The next four points went to ERAU but the Tars would answer with five of their own as a Yenor layup gave Rollins the 82-81 lead with 1:06 to go. Whitlow hit a 3-pointer and then after a couple defensive stops the Eagles would ice this one at the free throw line.
ERAU shot 51.7 percent from the field, 42.3 percent (11-26) from the 3-point line and 60 percent (15-25) from the free throw line. They had 17 assists and 17 turnovers as a team. ERAU was also +15 on the boards (42-27.)
The Tars shot 53.2 percent from the field, 46.2 percent (12-26) from the 3-point line, and 36.4 percent (4-11) at the free throw line. Rollins had 21 assists and 12 turnovers in the contest.
Rollins will be back in action Monday when they take on Puerto Rico-Bayamon at Warden Arena. Tip time is set for 7 PM.
