Second Half Surge Lifts Rollins Past Eckerd.

 The Rollins College Tars outscored Eckerd College 43-33 in the second half on the way to a 80-74 road win at the McArthur Center. With the win Rollins improves to 5-6 and 2-2 in the Sunshine State Conference. Eckerd drops to 5-6 and 2-3 in the SSC after the defeat. 

 The game could not have started out much worse for the Tars. Eckerd led 7-0 after a Kent Gerard layup at the 17;51 mark of the opening half. Rollins leading scorer Hutton Yenor left the game two minutes in with an injury and would not return. Cody Potter would finally get the Tars on the board with a 3-pointer at the 17:03 mark of the first half. The next eight points would go to the Tritons as they would lead 15-3 after a Garard jumper at the 14:47 mark of the half. Rollins would then go on a 13-0 run capped by a Kyle Marion jumper at the 9:42 mark that put the Tars up 16-15. The game would go back and forth for the next three minutes and then Daniel Love would go on a personal 7-0 run to put EC up 29-22. Cade Long hit a 3-pointer for Rollins to cut the lead to four (29-25.) After a Garard hoop Marion knocked down another 3-ball to trim the Tritons lead to three (31-28) at the 4:49 mark of the first half. The Tritons would take a four point lead (41-37) into the halftime break. 

 Rollins came out firing in the second half. A Long 3-pointer 42 seconds in would knot the game at 42. After a brief lead for the Tars a 3-pointer by Daniel Love would put EC up 45-44. Potter would hit back to back triples for Rollins to give the Tars a 50-45 edge with 17:10 to go. Another 3-pointer by Potter at the 14:25 mark would stretch the Rollins lead to eight (55-47.) After a Swedura basket for the Tritons Potter would continue his torrid shooting with another triple that made it a nine point Rollins lead (58-49) with 12:53 to go. The next seven points went to Eckerd as a Carr Thiam basket at the 9:55 mark trimmed the Rollins lead to two (58-56.) A dunk by Matheus Silveira and a steal and basket by Cam Corcoran would stretch the Rollins lead back to six. Marion knocked down a 3-pointer at the 7:14 mark and again Rollins had a nine point advantage (67-58.) Jaden Frazier spilt a pair of free throws and the Tars had their largest lead of the game at 10 (68-58.) An 8-0 run by the Tritons made it a two point game (68-66) after a Daunte Bouchard 3-pointer with 3:51 on the clock. After Marion hit a pair of free throws another Bouchard triple made it a one point (70-69) Rollins lead with 3:08 to go. Marion and Silveira hit baskets but again the 3-point shot was big for the Tritons as Bouchard made it 74-72 with 1:09 on the clock. Marion hit a jumper and the Tars would seal it by making four free throws late to secure the road win. 

 Rollins was paced by a trio of players in double figures.  Marion poured in a game high 27 points and dished out a team leading six assists.  Potter was six of seven from the 3-point line on his way to 20 points, and Silveira scored 12 points and pulled down nine rebounds. The Tars shot 51.9 percent from the field, 41.7 percent (10-24) from the 3-point line, and 76.2 percent (16-21) at the free throw line. The Tars had 13 assists and 14 turnovers in the victory. They also edged the Tritons on the boards 36-34. 

 Eckerd also had three players in double digits. Daniel Love led the way with 21 points, Bouchard added five 3-pointer's on his way to 15 points, and Thiam tallied 12. EC shot 41.8 percent from the field, 34.2 percent (13-38) from the 3-point line, and 62.5 percent (5-8) at the free throw line. They had 21 assists and 10 turnovers in the contest. 

 Rollins will be back in action Sunday when they host Florida Tech. Tip time is slated for 4 PM at Warden Arena.
