Short Handed Rollins No Match For #2 Nova Southeastern.
It is hard enough to play the #2 team in the country when they are playing as well as the second ranked Nova Southeastern Sharks are playing. It's even harder when you are in the position the Rollins College Tars are without two key pieces of the squad. Both Kyle Marion and Hutton Yenor missed Wednesday's game with injuries and #2 Nova Southeastern (13-0 6-0 SSC) rolled against Rollins College (5-8 2-4 SSC) 100-58 at Warden Arena.
Cade Long led the Tars with 14 points, John Latimer added 11, and Sergey Grishaev tallied 10 in the defeat. Rollins shot 39.1 percent from the field, 36.8 percent (7-19) from the 3-point line, and 88.2 percent (15-17) at the free throw line. The Tars had 12 assists and 22 turnovers in the contest.
The Sharks were paced by Mike Moore who scored 26, RJ Sunahara tallied 18, Will Yoakum scored 15, and Jonathan Pierre netted 14 in the win. The Sharks shot 56.3 percent from the field, 48.8 percent (21-43) from the 3-point line, and 53.8 percent (7-13) at the free throw line. The Sharks dominated the rebounding battle 37-24. They had 28 assists and 12 turnovers in the contest.
NSU scored the games first six points, five of them coming on a bucket as well as a 3-pointer by Will Yoakum. Rollins would finally get on the board on a pair of Latimer free throws. Grishaev would make the first Rollins field goal 3:35 seconds in. The Sharks would grow to 22 (30-8) after a Ryan Davis layup with 8:22 in the half. NSU would take a 32 point lead (56-24) into the locker room.
The second half would be much like the first as the lead would grow to 38 (65-27) with 16:10 to go. The lead would be 42 (84-42) after a 3-pointer by Pierce at the 9:19 mark. The Sharks would cruise to victory and stay unblemished on the season.
Rollins will be back in action Saturday when they travel to the University of Tampa. Tip time from the Martinez Center is set for 4 PM.
