Tars Tripped Up By #18 Florida Southern In Overtime.

The Rollins College Tars and #18 Florida Southern College Moccasins have played many classic games in the long storied rivalry of the two schools. Saturday was no different as the Mocs would withstand a last second attempt by Rollins in regulation and come away with a 111-106 victory.

Rollins (7-9 4-5 SSC) was led by Matheus Silveira who went 15 of 17 from the floor on his way to a game high 31 points and seven rebounds in 32 minutes of action. Hutton Yenor added 27, Kyle Marion scored 20, and Cade Long tallied 12 in the defeat. Rollins shot 61.1 percent from the floor, 40 percent (8-20) from the 3-point line and 66.7 percent (10-15) from the free throw line. They had 27 assists and 10 turnovers in the contest.

The Mocs (11-5 5-4 SSC) were paced by Jadin Booth who knocked down nine 3-pointer's on his way to 39 points in 39 minutes, as he also went 12 of 12 from the free throw line. EJ Dambreville added 29 as he added 11 rebounds and five assists. Luke Anderson also scored in double figures with 10. They shot 43.5 percent as a team, 45.7 percent (21-46) from the 3-point line and 88.9 percent (16-18) from the free throw line. The Mocs had 28 assists and eight turnovers in the contest. They also won the rebounding battle 41-38.

Rollins got off to a 8-3 lead as Marion and Yenor would hit back to back baskets. After a Silveira hoop at the 14:37 mark of the opening half it was 16-8 in favor of the Tars. The Rollins lead would grow to 11 on a pair of occasions as they led 23-12 after a Yenor jumper with 12:47 in the opening stanza. A Connor Raines 3-pointer would cap a 8-0 run for the Mocs and they were within three (23-20) with 10:29 in the opening half. After Dominick Denny hit a 3-pointer for FSC Yenor would throw down a dunk and Jaden Frazier would make a layup to make it a seven point (39-32) Rollins lead at the 5:01 mark of the first half. It would be the Mocs who would take a 51-49 lead into the halftime break.

After a John Latimer layup at the 16:48 mark Rollins would retake the lead 58-57. The two teams would go back and forth for the next several minutes. Rollins would then go on a 7-0 run as Silveira had another dunk and then a Marion triple would give them a six point lead (77-71) with 8:58 remaining. Sergey Grishaev hit a 3-pointer to give the Tars a seven point lead (84-77) but a 7-0 surge by the Mocs would tie the game at 84 on a jumper by Anderson with 4:20 to go in regulation. Yenor split a pair of free throws and then Noah Lewis gave the Mocs the lead back (86-85) with 1:48 on the clock. After Lewis spilt a pair of free throws 59 seconds later Latimer pulled up and buried a jumper to tie the game at 87 with 32 second to go in regulation After a Mocs timeout the Rollins defense stepped up and took a charge with seven seconds on the clock. The Tars could not convert after the timeout and this one was headed to overtime.

Booth would start the overtime with a four point play for the Mocs. Long split a pair of free throws and Anderson and Silveira would trade buckets. That would be as close as Rollins would get the rest of the way. Dambreville hit back to back 3-pointer's. Rollins would fight until the final buzzer but ultimately would come up short.

Rollins will be back in action Wednesday when they make the short trip to Saint Leo. Tip time is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
