Yenor's Return Helps Tars. Get Past Tampa.
The Rollins College Tars got back Hutton Yenor on Saturday in Tampa. Despite going just 5-15 from the field for 16 points Rollins came away with a 71-66 win at the Bob Martinez Sports Center. Cade Long also scored 16, John Latimer added 12, Cody Potter and Matheus Silveira chipped in 11. With the win Rollins improves to 6-8 and 3-5 in the SSC.
Tampa was led by Jesse White with 15- Mykah Brown added 13, and De'Andre Harvey added 11. With the loss Tampa falls to 5-8 and 4-3 in the SSC.
Rollins got off to a rough start as they did not score in the games first five minutes. It was 7-0 Tampa after that slow start. John Latimer made a pair of free throws to get the Tars on the board. The cold shooting continued for both teams as Tampa led 14-6 halfway through the opening half. The Tars went on a 7-0 run to trim the lead to 21-16 after a Long 3-pointer with 5:41 to go until halftime. Tampa would take a 30-25 lead into halftime.
Tampa stretched the lead to 10 (41-31) early in the second half. Rollins would go on a 6-0 run to get to within four (41-37) after a Latimer layup with 14:51 to go. After a Cody Potter 3-pointer with 9:53 on the clock. After a Yenor triple with 7:33 to go the game was knotted at 52. Potter was fouled on a 3-point attempt with 5:33 on the clock and knocked down all three free throws to give Rollins the 59-56 lead. A lead that the Tars would not relinquish the rest of the way.
Rollins shot 41.1 percent from the field, 36.4 percent (8-22) from the 3-point line, and 81 percent (17-21) from the free throw line. They had 10 assists and nine turnovers in this one.
Tampa shot 30.9 percent from the field, 27.8 percent (10-36) from the 3-point line, and 93.3 percent (14-15) at the free throw line. The Spartans won the rebounding battle 44-39. They had 11 assists and eight turnovers in the contest.
Rollins will be back in action Wednesday when they host Lynn. Tip time is slated for 730 PM.
