Rollins Furious Rally Forces Overtime As They Fall To Mocs In OT For Second Time.

It did not look like the Rollins College Tars were going to have a chance to win late on Wednesday night at Florida Southern. But the Tars who rallied from six points down with 45 seconds left in regulation could not carry the momentum into overtime and fell 124-113 at Jenkins FieldHouse. Rollins falls to 11-12 and 7-8 in the SSC after the defeat. The Mocs improved to 16-7 and 10-6 in the SSC as they completed the season sweep of Rollins.

The Tars had five players score in double figures on Wednesday. Hutton Yenor poured in a game high 35 points. Matheus Silveira added 20, Kyle Marion tallied 19, Sergey Grishaev added 14 and Cody Potter rounded out the double digit scorers with 10.

For the Mocs Luke Anderson led the way with 28, Jadin Booth tallied 21, Dominick Denny scored 20, and dished out 16 assists, Trey Jones scored 18, EJ Dambreville tallied 15 and grabbed 16 rebounds, while Connor Raines chipped in 11.

The Mocs jumped out to a 5-0 lead before the Tars tied it at five on a Marion 3-ball. Denny and Anderson hit back to back 3-pointer's to give the Mocs a six point cushion. After a Booth layup it was 20-9 in favor of FSC. The lead grew to 19 at 33-14 for the home team. Rollins would fight back and get to within single digits on a Long 3-pointer at the 2:38 mark that made it a nine point game (47-38.) At the half Rollins would trail 50-41.

Rollins shot 41 percent in the opening half, 58 percent (7-12) from the 3-point line, and 57 percent (4-7) at the free throw line.

The Mocs shot 53 percent in the opening stanza, 50 percent (8-16) from the 3-point line, and 2-2 at the free throw line.

FSC would stretch the lead to 17 (67-50) on a Raines triple at the 13:54 mark. Rollins would get to within 12 (76-64) on a Potter jumper with 8:59 to go. Potter would knock down another triple to cut the lead to seven (84-77) with 5:34 on the clock. The Mocs looked to be in control up 16 (95-79) after a Dambreville dunk with 2:27 to go. The Tars had other ideas. Things looked bleak for Rollins down 14 (99-85) with 1:44 to go but there would be no quit in Tom Klusman's bunch. Yenor made a bucket then Marion hit a pair of free throws. After a Marion steal he was fouled on a 3-pointer and knocked down all three free throw attempts. It was 103-94 Mocs with under a minute to go when Marion hit a 3-ball to trim the lead to six (103-97.) Rollins split a pair of free throws by Yenor and the Mocs missed the front end of a one and one. A jumper by Grishaev trimmed it to 103-100 with 21 seconds on the clock. After a turnover by the Mocs Jon Latimer tied it with a 3-pointer with seven seconds to go. Anderson missed a FSC three at the buzzer and we headed to overtime.

The Tars seemed to use all the energy they had to get this one back to even in. regulation. Jones, Booth, Damberville, and Denny fueled an 11-0 run by the Mocs to start the extra session. Latimer finally got Rollins on the board in the extra frame with a 3-ball at the 1:31 mark. It was too little too late as the Mocs completed the season sweep of Rollins.

Rollins shot 44 percent in the contest, 42 percent (14-33) from the 3-point line, and 68 percent (19-28) at the free throw line. The Tars had 20 assists and eight turnovers in this one.
