Tars Fall Short Against Barry.
The Rollins College Tars (11-11 7-7 SSC) had three players score in double figures but it was not enough in a 88-78 loss to the Barry Buccaneers (8-11 4-10 SSC) at Warden Arena on Saturday. Hutton Yenor scored 23, Matheus Silveira added 20, while Cade Long tallied 17 in the loss.
Barry was paced by Nick Anderson with 25, Jaron Williams scored 24, James Montgomery added 15, and Isaiah Washington netted 11.
After a 3-pointer by Long it was 9-5 in favor of the Tars. The lead would be 13-8 after a Sergey Grishaev basket at the 4:14 mark of the first half. The next five points went to Barry to knot the game at 13. The lead would go back and forth until a John Williams triple a 3-pointer by Anderson and a 3-ball by Jarron Williams gave Barry a 35-28 advantage. The lead would grow to 12 on a couple of occasions until a three-point play by John Latimer would pull Rollins within nine (44-35.)
Barry shot 42.1 percent from the field, 50 percent (9-18) from the 3-point line and a perfect three of three at the free throw line in the opening 20 minutes.
Rollins shot 41 percent in the first half, 25 percent (2-8) from the 3-point line and a perfect seven of seven at the free throw line.
Yenor hit two free throws to start the second half but Barry would quickly push the lead back to double digits. Rollins would get to within nine (60-51) at the 14:04 mark after a Kyle Marion jumper. 18 at the 8:51 mark. Rollins would go on a run as a Cade Long triple got them within seven (73-66) at the 6:06 mark. Yenor would knock down a pair of free throws to trim the lead to five (79-74) with 2:37 to go but that is as close as Rollins would get the rest of the way.
Rollins shot 40 percent as a team, 13 percent (3-23) from the 3-point line and went a perfect 25 of 25 at the free throw line. The Tars had 15 assists and 13 turnovers in this one.
Individually Yenor was 5-13 from the field including 1 of 5 from the 3-point line but went a perfect 12-12 at the free throw line to tally 23 points. Silveira was 8 of 12 from the field and 4-4 at the stripe to score 20 points and pulled down six rebounds. Long was 6 of 11 from the field, 1 of 5 from the 3-point line and 4-4 at the free throw line on his way to 17 points.
Barry shot 42 percent from the field, 42 percent (13-31) from the 3-point line and 76.5 percent (13-17) from the free throw line. They dominated the glass 48-35. Barry had 17 assists and 14 turnovers in the contest.
Individually Anderson was 9-16 from the field which included knocking down seven 3-pointer's in 12 attempts to pour in 25 points, Jarron Williams was an efficient 9-11 from the field including knocking down all four triples he attempted to score 24 points, Montgomery was 5-14 from the field as he netted 15 points to go with eight boards, Isiah Washington was 4-9 from the field on his way to 11 points.
Rollins will be back in action Wednesday when they travel to #18 Florida Southern. Tip time is set for 7:30 PM.
