Tars Head To Lakeland As They Seek Split With Mocs.
The Rollins College Tars (11-11 7-7 SSC) will look to get back at the Florida Southern Moccasins (15-7 9-6 SSC). Wednesday's contest will be in Lakeland after the Mocs won 111-106 in overtime in the first meeting. In the first meeting on 1.14 Matheus Silveria led Rollins with 31 points, Hutton Yenor added 27, Kyle Marion tallied 20, and Cade Long chipped in 12.
In that contest Jaden Booth poured in 39 points to lead FSC, EJ Dambreville scored 29, Dominick Denny tallied 12, and Luke Anderson chipped in 10. The Mocs will look for the season sweep on Wednesday.
Last time out Rollins was a 88-78 loser to Barry on Saturday. This followed a 75-60 win over Tampa on Wednesday. In the loss to Barry three players scored in double figures for RC. Yenor led the way with 23, Silveira had 20, and Long netted 17. In the Tampa contest Yenor scored 19 points, grabbed nine rebounds, and nabbed five steals. The five steals were a part of a week that garnered Yenor Defensive Player of The Week in the Sunshine State Conference for the third time this season. Silveira added 16, Long 14, and Marion notched 12 in the win over Tampa.
Rollins has three players averaging double figures on the season. Yenor paces the team at 19.2 points per game, this is good for fifth in the conference. The Timber Creek product also leads the team in rebounds at 5.4 per contest. He shoots 49.6 percent from the field which is just outside the top 10 in the league. Yenor leads the SSC in steals at 2.7 per game. Joining Yenor in double figures are Marion at 12.7 points per game and Silveira at 11.8 points per contest. Marion is in fourth in the SSC dishing out 4.0 assists per night. Marion is also top 10 in the conference in steals at 1.7 per game.
As a team Rollins is scoring 78.5 points per game which is sixth in the SSC while defensively they are giving up an SSC eighth best 79.6 points per contest. Rollins shoots 48 percent from the field which is third in the conference and holds the opposition to 44.1 percent shooting which is fourth in the conference. Rollins shoots 38.5 percent from the 3-point line which is fourth in the SSC while they are 10th in the SSC allowing the opposition to shoot 39.4 percent from long range. At the free throw line the Tars are fourth in the conference shooting 76.1 percent. On the glass the Tars are ninth in the conference being out rebounded by 1.0 (34.6-35.6) rebounds per contest.
The Mocs are coming off a pair of wins last week. They won 92-68 at Eckerd on Wednesday and then Saturday came away with a 100-81 win at Lynn. In the Eckerd game Booth led the way with 23, Anderson scored 22, Damberville added 17, and Denny netted 13. In the win over Lynn Damberville paced the Mocs with 21, Anderson added 13, while both Booth and Wes Bongiorno tallied 12.
Booth leads the season box score at 20.4 points per game which is third in the SSC. Damberville puts up 18.2 per night which is tied for seventh in the conference and is hauling in a team leading, as well as SSC second best 9.5 rebounds per night. Anderson also averages in double figures at 14 points per game. Booth is fifth in the SSC and leads the team in assists at 3.9 per contest.
As a team the Mocs are second in the SSC putting up 90.8 points per game which is fourth in all of D2, while defensively they are 10th giving up 83.2 per night. They shoot an SSC fourth best 48 percent from the field while they allow the opposition to shoot 45.1 percent from the field which is seventh in the conference. The Mocs are second in the conference shooting 40.8 percent from the 3-point line and are fifth defensively as the opposition shoots 33.5 percent from long distance. The Mocs are the top free throw shooting team in the SSC shooting 78.4 percent. The Mocs are sixth in the SSC on the glass (39.0-38.0) rebounds per contest.
