Rollins Heads To Daytona For SSC Semifinal With ERAU.

 The seventh seeded Rollins College Tars (15-14) fresh off a 76-66  win over #2 Saint Leo on Tuesday night get set for a matchup with #6 Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (18-10) who are also coming off an upset on Tuesday night as they knocked off third seeded Florida Southern 96-88. The Tars and Eagles will meet in the SSC Semifinals on Thursday night at the ICI Center in Daytona Beach at 7 PM. You can catch all the action like you have all season long on 91.5 FM WPRK and on the Sunshine State Conference Digital Network at SunshineStateConference.TV with Jim "Shooter' Ferro and Robert Segal on the call.  The winner of Thursday's matchup will face the winner of #1 Nova Southeastern and #4 Florida Tech at 1 PM on Saturday in the SSC Championship Game hosted by the higher seed. 

 In the win over Saint Leo in the Quarterfinals Kyle Marion paced three Tars in double figures with 23 points, he was joined by SSC First Team All-Conference member Hutton Yenor (20 points and five assists) and John Latimer (16 points and nine rebounds.) Both Yenor and Marion added two steals in the contest. Rollins shot 46 percent from the field, 45 percent (9-20) from the 3-point line, and 54 percent (7-13) from the free throw line in the victory. They won the rebounding battle 39-30. The Tars had 14 assists and just six turnovers in the Quarterfinal victory. 

 On the season Rollins averages an SSC sixth best 79.9 points per game while on the defensive end they they give up an SSC ninth best 80.9 points per contest. Rollins shoots 48 percent from the field which is third in the conference and are sixth in the league allowing the opposition to shoot 45.3 percent from the floor. Rollins shoots the ball well from the 3-point line where they shoot nearly 39 percent (38.7) from long range which is fourth in the SSC, on the other end they are second to last in the conference letting the opposition shoot 38.3 percent from long distance. Rollins shoots nearly 76 percent (75.9 percent) at the free throw line which is good for fifth in the SSC. On the glass the Tars are seventh being beaten on the glass by 0.1 (35.1-35.2) rebounds per night. 

Yenor leads the team in scoring and is third in the conference putting up 20.1 points per game. He also leads the team in rebounds (5.5,) steals (2.4 which is second in the conference,) and minutes played (33.8) which is sixth in the SSC. The Timber Creek product is second in assists with an SSC eighth best 3.4 dimes per night. The Jacksonville native  nets 14 points per game, leads the team and is sixth in the conference dishing out four assists per night. Marion is eighth in steals getting 1.7 per contest. Matheus Silveira is is also averaging in double figures putting up 12.4 points per night. The Tres Pontas, Brazil product leads the SSC in field goal percentage (62 percent) and is fifth in the conference in blocked shots (1.1 per game.) 

 In the first meeting with ERAU on 11/19/22 (won 88-82 by the Eagles) Yenor had 22, Silveira netted 17, Marion tallied 16 to with eight rebounds and seven assists, while Cade Long tallied 14. In the second meeting just a week and a half ago Yenor had 17, Latimer added 15, while the duo of Marion and Silveira netted 14.

The Eagles are coming off the upset of the Mocs on Tuesday night. Malcolm Whitlow paced ERAU with 30 in the upset win, Dre Nickson added 19, and Jon Allesandro scored 15. ERAU averages an SSC fourth best 81.5 points per game while defensively they give up 75.4 points per night which is third in the conference. They are fifth in the conference in field goal percentage (45 percent) and the opposition shoots 44.2 percent which makes them third on the defensive end. The Eagles are second to last in the conference shooting just 33 percent from the 3-point line but are the top team in the conference guarding the 3-point line as they hold the opposition to 31.7 percent shooting from long range. The Eagles shoot 72 percent from the free throw line which is seventh in the league but they are the top rebounding team in the league has they out rebound the opposition by 8.6 (41.1-32.5) rebounds per night. Whitlow leads three Eagles averaging double figures in scoring as he puts up 18.1 points per game which is ninth in the SSC. Murray puts up 16.5 points per night and is seventh in the conference dishing out 3.5 assists per game. Murray is also fifth in the SSC in rebounding grabbing 7.6 per contest. he is also fifth in the SSC in field goal percentage shooting at a 57 percent clip from the floor. Murray also blocks 0.9 shots per game which in ninth in the league. Michael McCallister rounds out the double digit scorers at 10 per game and also pulls down 7.4 rebounds per night which is sixth in the SSC.

 In the first meeting (a 88-82 win for the Eagles 11.19) Jack Dillard and Danny Sully each scored 13, Chris Murray tallied 12, and both Allesandro and McCallister tallied 11. In the second meeting (a 78-74 Eagles loss) about a week and a half ago Murray had 21, Whitlow had 16, and Wesley Simpson scored 10.
