Rollins Routs Bayamon Wednesday.
The Rollins College Tars had five players score in double figures led by Matheus Silveira who posted 26 points and five rebounds in a 105-68 rout of the Puerto Rico Bayamon Vaqueros Wednesday at Warden Arena. Kyle Marion added 16, Sergey Grishaev added 12, while both Cody Potter and Dylan Wolle scored 10. Rollins improves to 3-2 with the victory.
The Vaqueros fell to 0-3 on the season. Luis Moya and Victor Carillo each scored 12, while Bryant Rodriguez added nine in the defeat. Bayamon was led on the glass by Moya and Jean DeSliva with three. Carillo led the team with three assists as well.
The two teams went back and forth in the early going as the game was tied at 10 at the 16:20 mark of the first half. The game was then tied at 16 and 18 before Rollins got a Silvera free throw and a layup by Cade Long. The Vaqueros tied it again at 21 on a Sebastien Santiago triple. Jack Kronague kick-started an 11-0 run by the home standing Tars as after a Grishaev 3-ball capped an 11-0 run the Tars led 32-21 with 8:50 until halftime. A 6-0 run by Bayamon gave way to a 8-0 run for the Tars as Silveira converted a three-point play to make it 40-27 with 5:37 until halftime. The Tars carried a 54-37 lead into the halftime break.
Rollins was off and running away with a pair of triples to start the second half. The lead grew to 29 after a Kyle Marion layup. A 3-pointer by Wolle made it a 35 point lead for the Tars at the 12:59 mark. The largest lead of the game was 40 with 1:12 to go after a Rivers Lenholt free throw.
Rollins shot 57.8 percent from the field, 43.5 percent (10-23) from the 3-point line, and 87.5 percent (21-24) from the free throw line. Rollins dominated the glass holding a 42-22 edge on the boards. They had 26 assists and 15 turnovers as a team.
Bayamon shot 41.5 percent from the field, 38.5 percent (10-26) from the 3-point line, and 66.7 percent (14-21) from the free throw line. They had 10 assists and 15 turnovers in the contest. The Vaqueros also picked up eight steals.
Rollins will take a break for the holiday and jump into Sunshine State Conference play when they travel to Melbourne to take on Florida Tech. Tip time is set for 6 PM.
