Marion and Silveira Score In Double Figures As Tars Fall In Daytona.

 Sunday afternoon featured day one of the Daytona Beach Shootout at Ocean Center. The Rollins College Tars got 20 points from Kyle Marion while Matheus Silveira added 10 in a 70-55 loss to #19 Angelo State. With the loss Rollins drops to 3-6 on the year. The Rams improved to 9-1 with the win. 

 Shemar Smith got the Rams on the board first with a dunk. Rollins got a free throw from Matheus Silveria and then a basket by Silveria put the Tars ahead 3-2. A 3-pointer by Keysh Embry-Simpson gave the Rams a 5-3 lead. Rollins knotted it at five after a Marion jumper at the 16:38 mark of the opening half. A 20-3 run by Angelo State gave the Rams a double digit lead before Marion and Silveira each scored to cut the lead to 13 (25-12) at the 7:19 mark. Rollins trailed by 12 after a Jack Kronague layup nearly a minute later. Angelo State would open the lead up to 21 (40-19) at halftime. 

 Rollins shot a frigid 34.8 percent from the floor and went 0-2 from the 3-point line in the opening half. The tars struggled at the free throw line where they went 3-8 (37.5 percent.) 

 The Rams shot 46.8 percent from the floor, 27.78 percent (5-18) from the 3-point line and 62.5 percent (5-8) from the free throw line in the opening 20 minutes. 

Rollins scored the first four points of the second half to get to within 17 but the next five points went to the Rams. Rollins would not get the lead below 20 until Sergey Grishaev made a free throw at the 4:45 mark to make the Tars deficit 19 (68-49.) Rollins would score the final six points to account for the 70-55 final score. 

 Marion had five assists, a pair of assists and a pair of steals to go with his 20 point outing. Silveira added six rebounds to go with his 10 points. Rollins shot 39.6 percent from the field, 22.2 percent (2-9) from the 3-point line, and 61.1 percent (11-18) from the free throw line. They had 8 assists and 21 turnovers in the contest. The Tars won the rebounding battle 38-36. 

 The Rams were paced by Embery-Simpson with 19, Jevon Godwin had 14 to go with six assists and seven steals, Trey Farrer added 12 points, while Smith tallied 10. The Rams shot 38.8 percent from the floor, 27.8 percent (10-36) from the 3-point line, and 66.7 percent (8-12) from the free throw line in this one.  They had 17 assists and 22 turnovers in the contest. 

Rollins will be back in action tomorrow at 3 PM when they take on Montana State Billings. Tip time from Daytona is set for 3 PM.
