Rollins Falls To Lynn In Overtime.
The Rollins College Tars trailed by 13 points at halftime and rallied to force overtime but fell 80-77 at Warden Arena on Saturday. Matheus Silveira scored 18 points, Kyle Marion added 16, and Dylan Wolle scored 14 in the loss. Rollins falls to 3-5 on the year and 0-3 in the SSC. Lynn was paced by Ben Gahlert with 18 points,Jamison Evans had 16, Jalen Gilmore added seven. points and a team leading 12 assists, Nordan Kapic added 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Tradavis Thompson added 10. Lynn improved to 4-1 and 1-1 in the SSC with the win.
The Fighting Knights jumped out to a 11-4 lead five minutes into this one. After a Wolle 3-jumper at the 10:28 mark of the first half Rollins was within three. After a Fighting Knights 3-ball Cody Potter pulled the Tars within three once again, After two Silveria free throws it was a two point game (25-23) in favor of the Fighting Knights. Wolle and Jack Kronague hit 3-pointers and it was a one point deficit (30-29) for the Tars. Lynn would close the half on a 12-0 run to take a 13 point lead (42-29) into the locker room.
Lynn shot 52 percent and went 5-13 from the 3-point line in the opening 20 minutes. They went 5-7 from the free throw line in the opening stanza. Rollins shot 32.6 percent from the field and 5-14 from the 3-point line in the opening half, as well as 80 percent (4-5) from the free throw line.
Rollins went on a 9-0 run as Braxton Barnhizer stole the ball and Silveria scored at the other end to make it a 44-40 lead for Lynn. The Tars would later go on a 14-0 run and take a 58-54 lead with 6:26 on the clock. After a Silveira three-point play Rollins led by seven but it was another 6-0 run by the Fighting Knights to get to within one. A Kapic layup for Lynn tied the game at 67 with 29 seconds to left. A Marion jumper with six seconds left put Rollins up by two but Two free throws by Gilmore would tie game with one second left in regulation.
Two free throws by Cade Long and a Silveria layup put Rollins up for in the overtime period. The Fighting Knights would battle back and tie the game at 75 after a pair of free throws by Kapic at the 2:18 mark of the extra session. A Thompson 3-pointer put Lynn up by three with 1:27 in overtime. Lynn made enough free throws down the stretch to close out this once. Rollins shot 41.9 percent from the field, 27.3 percent (6-22) from the 3-point line, and 65 percent (19-29) from the free throw line. The Tars had 14 assists and 10 turnovers in the loss.
Lynn shot 44.8 percent from the field, 26.9 percent (7-26) from the 3-point line, and 65 percent (13-20) from the free throw line. The Fighting Knights also won the rebounding battle 46-33. They had 19 assists and 15 turnovers in the contest.
Rollins will be back in action on 12/17 when they take on Angelo State. Tip time from the Daytona Beach Shootout will be at 3 PM.
