Potter Scores Career High As Four Score In Double Figures as Tars fall at Eckerd.

Cody Potter knocked down six 3-pointer's on his way to a career high 23 points, Cade Long added 12, and both Matheus Silveira and Kyle Marion tallied 10 as the Rollins College Tars (4-9 1-5 SSC) fell 92-76 to the Eckerd College Tritons (8-6 3-3 SSC) at the McArthur Center in Saint Pete. Eckerd was led by Carr Thiam and Will Willard who netted 18 points each, Kent Garrard added 17, George Kimble scored 15, and Timothy Thompson posted 14 points and a game high 15 rebounds.

Eckerd jumped out to a 6-2 lead before Rollins went on a 9-0 run. A Sergey Grishaev jam at the 15:13 mark of the opening half gave Rollins an 11-6 advantage. The Tritons scored the next two baskets before Long gave the Tars a three point lead (13-10.) A pair of Kimble free throws would make it 16-15 Eckerd before Potter hit a jumper to make it 17-16 in favor of the visitor at the 10:18 mark of the first half. A 9-0 run by the Tritons powered by a pair of Willard 3-pointer's gave the home team a 25-17 lead with 7:15 in the first half. After Potter made a basket a 3-ball by Garard made it a nine point lead (28-19) for the Tritons. A Potter 3-pointer at the 3:43 mark of the first half cut the Tritons lead to three (31-28.) Long made a jumper at the 2:01 mark of the half to make it 33-32 EC. The Tritons would finish the half on a 7-0 run to take a 40-32 lead into the locker room. Rollins shot 43.75 percent from the field, 1-7 (14.3 percent) from the 3-point line and 75 percent (3-4) from the free throw line in the opening stanza. Eckerd shot 31.7 percent from the field, 27.3 percent (3-11) from the 3-point line and 73.3 percent (11-15) from the free throw line in the opening 20 minutes.

The Tritons stretched the lead to 11 in the opening minute of the second half when Braxton Barnhizer knocked down a triple for Rollins at the 18:35 mark. Garard answered with a 3-pointer but Barnhizer then converted a three-point play of his own. The Tritons all but put this one away with another run that made it 57-38 with 14:17 on the clock. Rollins was within 14 (66-52) after a Marion triple with 11:01 to go. The lead would swell to 23 (78-55) after a Willard 3-pointer at the 8:15 mark. Rollins went on a 10-0 run capped by a Potter 3-ball at the 6:13 but that is as close as they would get until the final 67 seconds of this one.
