Rollins Set To Host #3 Defending Champ NSU.
The Rollins College Tars (4-9 1-5 SSC) are set to host the third ranked and defending DII national champion Nova Southeastern Sharks (11-1 5-1 SSC) at Warden Arena inside the Alfond Sports Center tomorrow (Wednesday night) with a 7:30 Pm tipoff. Cody Potter led Rollins with a career high 23 points last time out as the Tars fell to Eckerd 92-76. Cade Long scored 12 points while both Kyle Marion and Matheus Silveira scored 10 points each in the defeat. The Tars are at the bottom of the SSC scoring 73.6 points per game while they give up 77.3 points per game which is fifth in the SSC. Rollins shoots 44.6 percent from the field which is ninth in the SSC while they hold the opposition to 43.1 percent shooting which is fifth in the conference. Rollins is last in the SSC shooting 29.9 percent from the 3-point line while guarding the 3-point line they are 10th as the opposition shoots 35.2 percent from long range. Rollins is seventh in the SSC shooting 73.1 percent from the free throw line and they are the bottom team in the conference on the glass being out rebounded 35.5-38.3 rebounds per night. Silveira continues to lead the team in several categories. He leads the squad and is ninth in the SSC in points per game (16.5,) leads the team in rebound per night (6.2,) field goal percentage (57.1 percent which is fifth in the SSC,) and blocks per game (1.5 per game which is sixth in the MEC.) Marion puts up 14.2 per night, gets 1.8 steals per game (tied eighth in the SSC) and is dishing out 4.1 assists per game (tied fifth in the SSC.) Potter scores nine points per game and leads the team shooting at a 50 percent clip from long distance which is third in the SSC.
NSU is coming off a 107-59 thrashing of the University of Tampa on Saturday after they saw a 62 game regular season win streak snapped last Wednesday. Ryan Walsh led the Sharks in the in over Tampa with 18 points, Alex Mangold and MJ Iraldi each added 14, and Shane Hunter tallied 10. The Sharks score 104.9 points per game which leads the SSC and is second in the country. On defense NSU is ninth in the conference giving up 81 points per night. The Sharks lead the SSC shooting 49.3 percent from the field, while defensively they are third as the opposition shoots 41.8 percent from the floor. The Sharks shoot 37.2 percent from the 3-point line which is sixth in the SSC while they are fifth on defense as the opposition shoots 32.8 percent from the 3-point line. NSU shoots 73.9 percent from the free throw line which is sixth in the SSC. On the glass NSU is tops in the conference getting 8.4 more rebounds than the opposition (44.9-36.5.) They also lead the conference in turnover margin getting 9.4 more turnovers than the opposition. Hunter leads the team and is fourth in the SSC getting 17.6 points per game, he shoots 60.8 percent from the field which is second in the conference, Isaiah Fuller puts up 15.2 points per game GianFranco Grafals puts up 13.6 per game, Iraldi gets 12.5 per night, and Ryan Davis scores 11.1 per night. Fuller leads the team and is eighth in the SSC dishing out 3.8 assists per game while Hunter is the top rebounder (7.2 per night.) Walsh leads the SSC shooting 57.6 percent from the 3-point line while Hubter's 2.3 blocks per game are third in the SSC.
