Silveira Continues Scoring Binge In Loss To ERAU.

 The Rollins College Tars got another big night from Matheus Silveira as he scored 26 points on 11-15 shooting but it was not enough as they lost 91-74 to Embry-Riddle at the ICI center on Saturday. With the loss Rollins falls to 5-11 and 2-7 in the SSC. ERAU improves to 11-6 and 5-4 in the SSC with the win. 

 Silveira would score the games first four points for the road team. ERAU would battle back and take a 8-5 lead on a Malolm Whitlow 3-pointer with 16:18 in the first half. Silveira would pull Rollins within one on the ensuing possession. Braxton Barnhizer would make two free throws for the Tars and it was 14-12 in favor of the Eagles with 15:09 in the first half. Back to back 3-pointers by the home team would put them up 20-12 on a Drum Nickson triple at the 13:16 mark of the first half. Cody Potter would hit a Rollins 3-pointer to pull them within six (23-17) at the 10:32 mark of the first half. The Eagles would stretch the lead to 18 (37-19) on a Whitlow triple at the 6:40 mark of the first half. It would be a 20 point (51-31) lead for the Eagles at the half. 

 Silveira had 10 points and Sergey Grishaev added eight for Rollins in the opening half. Rollins shot 38.7 percent from the floor, 23.5 percent (4-17) from the 3-point line, and 50 percent (3-6) from the free throw line. The Tars had three assists and six turnovers in the opening stanza. 

 McCallister, Whitlow, and Cameron Oke-Shockley with eight in the first 20 minutes. They shot 44.2 percent from the field, 40.7 from the 3-point line (11-27) from the 3-point line and 66.7 percent (2-3) from the free throw line. They had eight assists and two turnovers in the opening half. 

 Rollins came out with some life in the second half as Silveira scored and was fouled. He made the free throw and Braxton Barnhizer scored to cut the ERAU lead to 15 (51-36) at the 18:41 mark. The ERAU lead was 18 (60-42) when a Cade Long 3-ball got Rollins within 15 (60-45.) McCallister would hit three consecutive triples and the Eagles lead grew to 24 (69-45) with 14:11 to go. Rollins would go on a quick 8-0 run as Jaden Frazier and Grishaev scored and a 3-ball by Long and a free throw by Silveira made it 69-53. Potter would hit another Rollins 3-pointer at the 8:34 mark and Rollins was down 15 (74-59.) A 6-0 run would stretch the lead to 21 for the Eagles and the next five would go to Rollins as a Long three made it 80-64 with 5:38 on the clock. Rollins would get to within 14 (88-74) on a Silveria free throw but that is as close as they would get as 91-74 would be the final. 

 Silveria paced the Tars with 26, Grishaev added 16, and a pair of players in Potter and Long would make three triples on the way to nine points. Barnhizer led the Tars with 12 rebounds. As a team the Tars shot 44.6 percent, 31 percent (9-29) from the 3-point line, and 63.6 percent (7-11) from the free throw line. The Tars had nine assists and 13 turnovers in the loss. 

ERAU was led by McCallister who hit six triples on his way to 22 points, Malcolm Whitlow added 13, Jerry Bracey had 11, and Cameron Oke-Shockley added 10. The Eagles shot 40.7 percent from the field, 36.7 percent (18-49) from the 3-point line, and 50 percent (3-6) from the free throw line. The Eagles had 15 assists and five turnovers in the contest. 

Rollins will be back in action Wednesday when they host Florida Southern. Tip time is slated for 7:30 PM.
