Tampa Invades Winter Park In SSC Clash

 The University of Tampa Spartans come to Winter Park to battle the Rollins College Tars on Saturday. Tip time is set for 4 PM and you can catch all the action on 91.5 FM WPRK Winter Park and on SunshineStateConference.TV 

 Rollins (4-10 1-6 SSC) looks to bounce back after taking a 108-64 drubbing against #3 Nova Southeastern at home on Wednesday, Sergey Grisahev scored 14 and Kyle Marion added 13 for the Tars in the loss to the defending Division II national champions. The Tars are last in the SSC scoring 72.9 points per game while on defense they are giving up an SSC fifth best 79.5 points per night. Rollins shoots 44 percent from the floor which is 10th in the SSC while they are sixth on defense as the opposition shoots 43.8 percent from the field. Rollins is 11th in the conference shooting 29.6 percent from the 3-point line and are 10th on the defensive end as the opposition shoots 35 percent from the floor. The Tars shoot an SSC sixth best 73.9 percent from the free throw line and are the bottom team in the conference in rebounding margin as they are out rebounded by 2.8 (35.9-38.6) rebounds per night. The Tars are 10th in the conference in turnover margin but are fourth in the SSC blocking 3.93 shots per night.Matheus Silveria leads the team and is just outside the top 10 in the conference in scoring at 15.9 points per game. He also leads the team in several other categories. Those include rebounding (6.1 per night,) field goal percentage (57.8 percent which is third in the conference,) and blocked shots 1.6 per game which is tied for fifth in the SSC. Marion is the only other Tar who averages double figures at 14.1 per night. Marion leads the team and is seventh in the SSC picking up 1.9 steals per contest. He is second on the team in assists at 3.9 per game which is eighth in the conference. Cade Long leads the team and is fourth in the SSC dishing out 4.3 assists per night. 

 Tampa (5-9 1-5 SSC) has lost four straight. Last time out the Spartans were a 107-59 loser to Nova Southeastern. Bryan Williams was the only Spartan in double figures with 18 points. They shot 28 percent from the field and 5-27 (18.5 percent) from the 3-point line in the loss. Tampa scores an SSC ninth best 79.6 points per game while they are the worst defensive team in the SSC giving up 86.4 points per night. UT shoots an SSC worst 42.4 percent from the floor while they are fourth defensively as the opposition shoots 43.1 percent. The Spartans shoot an SSC 10th best 33 percent from the 3-point line while defensively they hold the opposition to 33 percent which is sixth best in the SSC. The Spartans shoot an SSC worst 66.4 percent from the free throw line and are ninth in the conference in rebounding margin being out rebounded by 1.3 (40.3-41.6) rebounds per contest. The Spartans have the worst turnover margin in the conference and are seventh in the SSC blocking 3.21 shots per game. Williams leads the team in scoring at 15.8 points per game. Amari Davis scores 15.6 per night, Tyson Leitao gets 13.1 per game, while Jaxson Toney and Jesse White each tally 10.1 per game. Leitao leads the team and is fourth in the SSC grabbing 10.4 rebounds per game while Williams leads the team dishing out 3.3 assists per contest. Williams is ninth in the conference shooting 46.7 percent from the field while Toney leads the team with an SSC seventh best 1.3 blocks per contest.

 The Rollins College Tars went down to Miami Shores and picked up their first conference win of the season as they knocked off Barry 86-79. With the win Rollins improves to 4-4 and 1-2 in the SSC. Tars Set To Battle Eckerd Wednesday.

 The Rollins College Tars return home to face the Eckerd College Tritons on Wednesday at Warden Arena. Marion, Silveira, Barnhizer combine for 51 in Road Loss To Florida Tech.

 Rollins College got a combined 51 points from the trio of Matheus Silveira, Kyle Marion, and Braxton Barnhizer but it was not nearly enough in a 96-73 road loss to Florida Tech at the Charles & Ruth Clemente Center. With the loss Rollins drops to 3-3 (0-1 SSC.) The Panthers improve to a perfect 6-0 on the season.   Barnhizer hit a pair of 3-pointer's in the games first 1:47 and the Tars led 6-1. Chase Thompson and Rashaan Edwards hit triples of their own to put the Panthers up 7-6. Barnhizer's third straight triple gave Rollins a 9-7 lead at the 16:55 mark of the first half. The lead was short-lived as a 3-pointer and a layup by Thompson put FIT ahead by a score of 12-9. Silveira and McCullough traded dunks before a Silveira jumper trimmed the Panthers lead to one (14-13) five minutes into this one.
