Tars Came Up Short At Home In See-Saw Affair

 The Rollins College Tars and Florida Southern Moccassins locked in a good one at Warden Arena inside the Alfond Sports Center Wednesday night. In a game that featured eight ties and 14 lead changes the the Mocs prevailed 88-85. With the win FSC improves to 14-5 and 8-2 in the SSC. Rollins falls to 5-12 and 2-8 in the SSC with the loss. 

Rollins led 5-2 early as Dylan Wolle split a pair of free throws with 18:41 to go in the first half. The Mocs would go on a 8-0 run before a Braxton Barnhizer triple would tie the game at 10. After a Kyle Marion three and a hoop by Matheus Silveira Rollins led 18-16 with 11:35 until halftime. The Mocs would lead 22-18 before a Cody Potter triple and a jumper by Silveira would put the Tars back on top. After a Sergey Grishaev 3-ball Rollins 26-25 with 8:45 left in the opening half. The Mocs would go on a 8-0 run in the next 2:45 to take a seven point lead. Rollins would get a pair of triples from Cade Long to get to within four (36-32) but the Mocs stretched the lead to 11 (43-32) at the 3:28 mark of the first half. Rollins would get to within seven (51-44) at the half. 

 Rollins would score the first four points of the second stanza to pull within three (51-48.) Silveira hit a jumper and a triple by Grisahev at the 16 minute mark gave the Tars a 56-53 lead. After a Jaden Frazier free throw with 13:33 on the clock Rollins led by eight (65-57.) Three consecutive triples by the Mocs would give them a 66-65 lead as Erickson Bans gave them the edge at the 12:27 mark. The Mocs would go up eight (76-68) n a Dominick Denny jumper with 9:08 to go. The Tars would get to within four (78-74) on a pair of Marion free throws with 5:30 on the clock. After a Long triple and a pair of Marion free throws Rollins was within one (82-81) with 3:18 to go. After a 3-pointer by Bans Marion would score a pair of baskets to knot the game at 85 with 1:22 to go. Bans hit a jumper and Rollins had a chance to take the lead but the Grishaev triple was off the mark. Luke Anderson split a pair of free throws and the Tars had a pair of chances to tie the game but they could not cash in and the Mocs secured the win. 

 Rollins was paced by Marion with 20 points, Grishaev added 19 and eight rebounds, Silveira added 17, and Long knocked down four triples on his way to 12. As a team the Tars shot 43.1 percent from the field, 34.4 percent (11-32) from the 3-point line, and 70.6 percent (12-17) from the free throw line. They had 18 assists and nine turnovers in the contest. 

Southern was led by Akol Drop with 20, Bans added 14, Anderson netted 12, Donovan Smith scored 11, and both Alex Steen and Joe Moon tallied 10. They shot 43.9 percent as a team, 31.6 percent (12-38) from the 3-point line, and 44.4 percent (4-9) at the free throw line. The Mocs won the rebounding battle 49-45. They had 22 assists and nine turnovers in the contest. 

 Rollins will be back in action Saturday when they take on #2 Nova Southeastern on the road. Tip time is set for 4 PM.
