Tars Hold Off Barry To Snap Losing Skid At Six.

Matheus Silveira scored 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, Cody Potter broke out of a season long shooting slump with five triples on his way to 16 points, Braxton Barnhizer added 13 points, six rebounds and four assists, while Dylan Wolle tallied double figures with 10 of his own as the Rollins College Tars (4-8 1-4 SSC) picked up their first SSC win of the season 77-75 and snapped a six game losing skid overall as they got a rare win in Miami against Barry (7-5 0-4 SSC) at the Barry Sport and Health Center.

The Buccaneers were led by James Montgomery with 17 points and 19 rebounds, Adren Roberts and Ga'Kahari Lacount each notched 16 while OT Delancy tallied 13 in the defeat. Barry shot just 22.9 percent (8-35) from the 3-point line in the loss.

The Tars came out of this one ice cold as they did not score in the games first four minutes and Barry took a 8-0 lead on a Montgomery jumper at the 15:55 mark of the opening half. Kyle Marion got the Tars on the board with a free throw 23 seconds later but a 3-pointer by Lacount made it a 11-1 advantage for the home team. The two teams traded triples before Rollins found their footing. A 8-0 Rollins run capped by the first of Potter's five triples on the night made it 14-12 Barry with 11:55 until halftime. Rollins would get back to back 3-pointer's by Sergey Grishaev to take their first lead of the game 18-17 with 10:57 in the opening half. The two teams would go back and forth for the next several minutes before a Wolle 3-ball knotted the game at 32 with 2:20 left in the half. Barry would score the next four points but Potter would hit another 3-pointer with nine seconds left in the half and Rollins trailed 36-35 headed to halftime.

Rollins regained the lead on a Silveira jumper to open the second half. Barry led by five before Barnhizer and Lacount traded 3-pointers. Barnhizer hit a jumper to make it a 56-53 Rollins deficit with 10:46 to go when the Tars went cold. Rollins did not score again until the 8:17 mark as a Jaden Frazier hoop made it a six point deficit (61-55.) The lead grew to seven on a Nick Anderson jumper but a Wolle 3-pointer cut that deficit to four (63-59) with 6:31 remaining. A pair of Delancey free throws made it a six point game before Potter knocked down yet another shot from long range. After a couple of defensive stops by the Tars and a layup by Barnhizer Silveira gave the Tars the lead 66-65 with 4:05 on the clock. Stanley hit a pair of free throws to put Barry on top but Potter came through as he did all night with his fifth triple of the contest to make it 69-67 Rollins with 3:33 remaining. After another stop on defense for the Tars Wolle split a pair of free throws. Silveria knocked down two big freebies that stretched the lead to five (72-67) with 2:13 to go. A three by Anderson nine seconds later cut it to two but Cade Long hit a jumper to make it 74-70 Tars at the 1:35 mark. Barry got to within one (74-73) after a Delancey bucket with under a minute to go. A jumper by Silveira with 32 seconds left stretched the Rollins lead to three (76-73.) Montgomery would hit a pair of free throws for the home team to pull them within one (76-75) with 18 ticks remaining. Barnhizer was fouled but missed the front end of a one and one to give the Bucs possession as the Tars needed one more stop. Rollins did just that as Rollins corralled the rebound and was fouled with .3 seconds left. Grisahev made the first and the the second was missed intentionally as time expired.

Rollins shot 45.8 percent from the field in the win. They were 12-26 (46.2 percent) from the 3-point line and 55 percent (11-20) at the free throw line. The Tars had 17 assists and 11 turnovers in the contest. The game featured two ties and 11 lead changes.

Barry shot 36.1 percent from the field, 8-35 (22.9 percent) from the 3-point line and 78.9 percent (15-19) at the free throw line. The Bucs won the rebounding battle 45-40. They had 14 assists and six turnovers on the night.
