Four Tars Score In Double Digits But They Are Swept By The Eagles

Four Rollins College Tars scored in double figures. Kyle Marion paced Rollins with 25 points, Dylan Wolle notched 17, Matheus Silveria netted 14, and Sergey Grishaev tallied 12 but it was not enough as Rollins fell 94-81 to the Embry-Riddle Eagles. With the loss Rollins falls to 8-15 and 5-11 in the SSC. ERAU improves to 15-8 and 9-6 in the SSC as they complete the season sweep of the Tars.

In a game that featured four ties and 11 lead changes it was very competitive in the first half. Kyle Marion and Dru Nickson traded buckets to start things off. After Grishaev hit a 3-pointer Malcolm Whitlow cut the Rollins lead to one. Grishaev and Braxton Barnhizer would each hit a jumper and Rollins had a 9-4 lead with 17:55 in the first half. Danny Sully and Grishaev would trade baskets before Nickson and Whitlow each hit a 3-ball and a basket by Michael Mcallister made it 14-11 in favor of the visitors. A 7-0 run started by a Cade Long triple would give the Tars a 18-14 lead after Marion ran off five straight points as the first half clock read 13:59. A 3-pointer by Cameron Okeke-Shockley gave the Eagles a brief lead but a triple by Grisahev put Rollins back on top. That lead was short-lived as we were knotted at 21 with 12:42 in the opening half. The next five points went to the Tars as Rollins led 26-21 after a 3-pointer by Wolle with 11:38 in the first half. Another three by Wolle would make it 29-23 Rollins with 10:46 in the opening half. A dunk by Wolle at the 10:11 mark of the opening stanza gave the Tars a seven point lead (31-24.) The Eagles would battle back and retake the lead 37-36 on a Whitlow 3-pointer at the 6:46 mark. After the lead changed hands again Rollins went up 41-39 on a Silveria three-point play with 4:06 in the first half. After the Eagles took the lead again late in the first half the Tars took a 48-47 lead on a Marion 3-pointer with 35 ticks until halftime. Rollins would take that one point lead into the locker room.

Rollins shot 61.3 percent in the opening half, 63.6 percent (7-11) from the 3-point line, and 60 percent (3-5) at the free throw line in the first stanza. For the Eagles they shot 45 percent from the field, 36.8 percent (7-19) from the 3-point line, and 57.1 percent (4-7) from the free throw line in the first 20 minutes.

A Whitlow three put the Eagles back on top in the second half and then Marion split a pair of free throws. After Long hit two free throws at the 18:33 mark Rollins trailed by one (52-51.) Over the next four plus minutes ERAU went on a 16-0 run to open up a 17 point lead. Rollins would get the lead back to single digits (72-63) on a Silveira jumper at the 11:27 mark. Rollins would go on a 7-0 run to trim the Eagles lead to four (73-69) after a Marion triple at the 9:26 mark. Rollins would get to within three (74-71) after a Marion jumper with 8:48 to play. The next five points went to ERAU before a Wolle three-point play. That is as close as Rollins would get the rest of the way as ERAU came away with the 94-81 win.

Rollins shot 50.9 percent from the field, 50 percent (9-18) from the 3-point line, and 73.7 percent (13-18) from the free throw line. They had 16 assists and 18 turnovers in the contest.

ERAU was paced by Whitlow with 23, Nickson tallied 20, Sully scored 16, while both Okeke-Shockley and Bracey netted 10. As a team the Eagles shot 49.3 percent from the field, 37.9 percent (11-29) from the 3-point line, and 68 percent (17-25) from the free throw line. They won the rebounding battle 39-33. ERAU had 18 assists and 10 turnovers in this one.

Rollins will be back in action Saturday when they travel to Tampa. Tip time is set for 4 PM.
