Rollins Dumped By Lynn On The Road.
Four players scored in double figures but it was not enough for the Rollins College Tars as they fell 98-81 at the De Hoernle Center on Wednesday night. Sergey Grishaev scored 22 points, Matheus Silveira added 20, Kyle Marion added 13, and Cade Long tallied 10. With the loss Rollins falls to 8-17 and 5-13 in the SSC. Lynn had five players score in double figures. Nordin Kapic led the Fighting Knights with 24 points, Jalen Gilmore added 20, Tradavis Thompson added 19, while both Ben Gahlert and Ricky Ballard added 12. With the win Lynn improves to 15-8 and 10-7 in the SSC.
The teams went back and forth in the early going as Grishaev knocked down a jumper at the 13:14 mark of the first half. After Dylan Wolle made a layup at the 9:58 mark of the opening half we were tied at 25. Each team would go on a 4-0 run and the game was knotted at 29 after Cody Potter tied at 29. The game continued on the see-saw until the Fighting Knights took a 45-43 lead. Rollins shot 44.7 percent from the field, 33.3 percent (4-12) from the 3-point line, and 83.3 percent (5-6) from the free throw line. The Fighting Knights hot 47.2 percent in the first half, 42.1 percent (8-19) from the 3-point line and 50 percent (3-6) from the free throw line.
Lynn opened up a 10 point lead (59-49) after a Jamison Evans dunk at the 16:19 mark. Kyle Marion hit two free throws at the 14:13 mark to trim the lead to four (61-57.) After a Grishaev three the tars were within three but that was answered by a triple by Tradavis Thompson. Rollins would pull to within two (70-68) after Silveira made a layup with 9:02 on the clock. After a Long 3-pointer at the 7:02 mark the Tars were down three (74-71.) The Fighting Knights would open up a nine point lead (87-78) after Thompson hit another 3-pointer with 3:20 to go. The Tars would get no closer than eight the rest of the way as they lost for the third straight game.
For the game Rollins shot 47.8 percent from the field, 30 percent (6-20) from the 3-point line, and 73.3 percent (11-15) from the free throw line. The Tars had 24 assists and 10 turnovers in the game.
For the Fighting Knights they shot 45.7 percent from the field, 38.9 percent (14-36) from the 3-point line, and 80 percent (20-25) from the free throw line. They won the rebounding battle 45-34. Lynn had 21 assists and nine turnovers in the contest.
Rollins will be back in action next Wednesday (2/28) when they travel to Lakeland to battle Florida Southern. Tip time is set for 7:30 PM.
