Tars Seek Sweep Of Tampa

 The Rollins College Tars (8-15 5-11 SSC) take on the University of Tampa Spartans (7-17 3-13 SSC) at the Martinez Sports Complex on Saturday. You can catch all the action on 91.5 FM WPRK and on SunshineStateConference.TV with a scheduled 4 PM tip off. 

 Rollins had the lead at halftime last time out but were ultimately swept by Embry-Riddle as the Eagles took the second matchup 94-81 at Warden Arena. Kyle Marin paced the Tars with 25 points, Dylan Wolle added 17, Matheus Silveira added 14 and Sergey Grishave tallied 12 in the defeat. In the first meeting with Tampa back on January 13th Rollins came away with a 88-84 win. Silveira led the way with 25, Marion and Grisahv added 16, while Wolle tallied 12. Rollins scores an SSC worst 76.1 points per game, shoots an SSC eighth best 46 percent from the floor, an SSC 10th best 32.8 percent from the 3-point line, shoots free throws at an SSC eighth best 72.6 percent clip, is last in the SSC in turnover margin, seventh in assist to turnover ratio, dishes out 17.5 assists per game which is good for second in the SSC. On defense they give up an SSC seventh best 82.6 points per game, are tied for sixth in field goal percentage against (44.8 percent,) eighth at guarding the 3-point line (36 percent,) they are being out rebounded by 1.9 (36.5-38.4) boards per night which is 10th in the SSC, while they block an SSC seventh best 3.35 shots per game. Silveira leads the team scoring 17 points per game which is good for eighth in the conference, he also leads the team pulling down six rebounds per night, has the top field goal percentage (60.4 percent) in the league, while he is swatting an SSC seventh best 1.3 shots per game. Marion puts up 14.2 points per game while he dishes out an SSC sixth best 4.1 assists per contest. Cade Long is also in the top 10 in the SSC in assists at 3.6 per night (10th in the SSC.) Grishaev is putting up 11.7 points per game as well. Cody Potter is fifth in the conference in 3-point percentage (44.2 percent) which also leads the team. 

 Tampa is coming off a 93-85 loss to Barry on Wednesday. Jacob Harris led the Spartans with 21 while both Bryan Williams and Jesse White added 18. In the first meeting with Rollins Williams poured in 27, Tyson Leitao added 12, while White and Amari Davis each netted 10. As a team the Spartans score an SSC eighth best 80.1 points per game, shoot an SSC worst 42.8 percent from the field, an SSC seventh best 36.3 percent from the 3-point line, shoot free throws at an SSC worst 68.4 percent, are ninth in turnover margin and last in assist to turnover ratio. They are also near the bottom of the conference in assists per game (13.8.) On defense the Spartans give up an SSC worst 86 points per contest, are tied for sixth in field goal percentage against with the Tars (44.8 percent,) are sixth at guarding the 3-point line (35 percent.) are being out rebounded by 1.3 (39.0-40.3) rebounds per night which is ninth in the SSC, while they block an SSC eighth best three shots per game. Williams is tied for fourth in the conference netting 17.4 points per game while he is seventh in the SSC dishing out 3.9 assists per night as well as getting an SSC fourth best two steals per contest. Davis puts up 15.1 per game, Leitao scores 12.8 per contest, and White tallies 11.3 per game. Leitao pulls down an SSC fourth best 11 rebounds per game, while Jaxon Toney blocks 1.1 shots per game which is ninth in the SSC.

 The Rollins College Tars went down to Miami Shores and picked up their first conference win of the season as they knocked off Barry 86-79. With the win Rollins improves to 4-4 and 1-2 in the SSC. Tars Set To Battle Eckerd Wednesday.

 The Rollins College Tars return home to face the Eckerd College Tritons on Wednesday at Warden Arena. Marion, Silveira, Barnhizer combine for 51 in Road Loss To Florida Tech.

 Rollins College got a combined 51 points from the trio of Matheus Silveira, Kyle Marion, and Braxton Barnhizer but it was not nearly enough in a 96-73 road loss to Florida Tech at the Charles & Ruth Clemente Center. With the loss Rollins drops to 3-3 (0-1 SSC.) The Panthers improve to a perfect 6-0 on the season.   Barnhizer hit a pair of 3-pointer's in the games first 1:47 and the Tars led 6-1. Chase Thompson and Rashaan Edwards hit triples of their own to put the Panthers up 7-6. Barnhizer's third straight triple gave Rollins a 9-7 lead at the 16:55 mark of the first half. The lead was short-lived as a 3-pointer and a layup by Thompson put FIT ahead by a score of 12-9.
