Tars Trio Combine For 64 in Loss to Florida Southern
The trio of Matheus Silveria (23 points,)Kyle Marion (22), and Sergey Grishaev (19) combined for 64 points but it was not enough as Rollins fell 106-84 to Florida Southern College at Jenkins FieldHouse Wednesday night. Rollins falls to 8-18 and 5-14 in the SSC with the loss. FSC improves to 21-8 and 15-4 in the SSC with the win.
The two teams went back and forth in the early minutes but a 4-0 Rollins run made it 16-12 Tars after a Marion layup with 15:04 to go in the opening half. The game was knotted at 22 after a Luke Anderson hoop at the 13:08 mark of the half. FSC opened up a six point lead before Rollins scored four straight to get to within two (28-26) with 10:38 until halftime. A 12-2 run made it a 12 point lead for the home team but Grisahev hit a three and Silveria a layup to trim the lead to seven (40-33) The Mocs would take a 57-44 lead into halftime.
Rollins shot 42.6 percent from the field in the half. 33 percent from the 3-point line (5-15) and 69.2 percent (9-13) from the free throw line in the first 20 minutes. FSC shot 44.2 percent from the field, 32 percent (8-25) from the 3-point line, and 84.6 percent (11-13) from the free throw line in the first stanza.
The Tars got to within single digits early in the second half as Marion hit a jumper with 17:09 to go. The Mocs would open up a 25 point lead after a 9-0 run by the Mocs made it a 27 point lead for Mocs at the 6:18 mark. The Mocs would cruise to the win from that point on.
Rollins shot 44.1 percent from the floor in the game, 33.3 percent (8-24) from the 3-point line, and 61.5 percent (16-26) from the free throw line. They had 17 assists and 12 turnovers in the contest.
The Mocs were led by Anderson who had 26 points and 15 rebounds, Alex Steen scored 17, Trey Jones added 15, Connor Raines netted 14, Akol Drop had 11, and Erickson Bans tallied 10. They had 19 assists and 10 turnovers in this one.
FSC shot 43.5 percent from the floor, 30.2 percent (13-43) from the 3-point line, and 79.2 percent (19-24) at the free throw line. The Mocs dominated the glass 60-35.
Rollins will be back in action for Senior day Saturday when they host Barry. Tip time is set for 4 PM.
