NSU Rolls To Regional Title
The top ranked Nova Southeastern University Sharks are the top ranked team in the country and on Tuesday night they showed why with a 98-66 drubbing of third seeded Florida Southern to secure a second straight South Region Championship. NSU stayed perfect (20-0) at home on the year and the defending national championship will travel to Evansville, Indiana for the Elite Eight. The Mocs see the season come to an end at 23-10.
The game saw four ties and four lead changes in the early going but the trio of Trey Doomes (19 points,) MJ Iraldi (15,) and Shane Hunter (14) led the Sharks. NSU shot 47.5 percent from the field, 27.8 percent (5-27) from the 3-point line, and 89.5 percent (17-19) from the free throw line in the win. NSU had 13 assists, 11 turnovers, and dominated the board 49-32. They scored 25 points off of 22 Mocs turnovers. They also had 22 second chance points, 45 bench points, and 20 fast break points.
For FSC Lukje Anderson had 18, Akol Arop had 17, and Alex Steen tallied 10. The Mocs shot 36.1 percent from the field, 33.3 percent (8-24) from the 3-point line, and 93.3 percent (14-15) at the free throw line. The Mocs had 16 assists and 22 turnovers in the contest. They had just eight fast break points, eight bench points, and eight points off turnovers. The Mocs had 15 second chance points.
The Sharks will head to Evansville for the Elite Eight next week where the eight teams will be reseeded.
