Tars Take On Vaqueros In Pre-Thanksgiving Tilt

 The Rollins College Tars welcome the Puerto Rico Bayamon Vaqueros to Warden Arena inside the Alfond Sports Center for a 2 PM tip the day before thanksgiving (11/27.)  The Tars (3-3 0-2 SSC)  are coming off a 109-94 loss to the top ranked team in the country, the Nova Southeastern Sharks on Saturday. Emillis Butkus paced the Tars with 23 points, Sergey Grishaev netted 22, Beau Frericks tallied 15, Ian Hart added 14 with a team leading eight rebounds, and John Latimer added 11. Rollins shot 54.1 percent as a team, 41.7 percent (10-24) from the 3-point line, and 90 percent (18-20) at the free throw line. Rollins scores an SSC fifth best 83.3 points per game while they allow 84.7 points per night which is near the bottom of the conference. The Tars shoot an SSC fourth best 46 percent from the field while they are ninth defensively in the SSC as the opposition shoots the ball at a 44.8 percent rate. The Tars have been solid from the 3-point line where they are shooting an SSC third best 40.3 percent while they lead the SSC in free throw percentage as they shoot at a 84.6 percent clip. They are seventh in the SSC in guarding the 3-point line as the opposition shoots 35.8 percent from long range. On the boards Rollins is sixth as they are getting 2.7 (37.2-34.5) rebounds per night. The Tars have struggled taking care of the ball as they are 10th in turnover margin and are sixth in assist to turnover ratio. Rollins blocks an SSC fourth best 3.5 shots per game, as well as being the third best team in the SSC in assists at 18 per contest. They also get an SSC ninth best 6.3 steals per game. Frericks and Butkus are the teams top two scorers as they are seventh and ninth in the conference in scoring respectively. Frericks at 18.7 points per game and Butkus at 18 points per contest. Butkus is 10th in the SSC at field goal percentage at 52.8 percent and is an SSC ninth best shooter from the 3-point line at 45.9 percent. Frericks is fourth in the conference in assists at 4.3 per game and is 10th in the SSC shooting 87.8 percent at the free throw line. Grishaev notches 16.8 points per game, leads the team with an SSC sixth best eight rebounds per game average, and is tied for 10th in the SSC blocking 1.2 shots per night. Latimer rounds out the double digit scorers at 13.4 points per game and is dishing out an SSC 10th best 4.0 assists per night. Latimer is also sixth in the SSC shooting at a 90 percent clip from the free throw line. 

 The Vaqueros (0-4) are coming off a hard fought 87-82 loss to Eckerd on Saturday. Victor Carillo poured in a game high 41 points to lead UPB, Bryant Rodriguez had 16 and a team leading seven rebounds, while Luis Maya tallied 13 to go with three steals. The Vaqueros shot 45.3 percent from the field and 45.8 percent (11-24) from the 3-point line. They shot just 68.4 percent (13-19) at the free throw line. Carillo leads the team in scoring at 18 per game and steals at three per night. Rodriguez leads the team in rebounds at 10 per night and assists at three per contest, while Darius Hernandez leads the team swatting two shots per game.
