Rollins Furious Rally Falls Short At Barry.

 The Rollins College Tars were down 17 (70-53 with 8:54 to go at the Barry Sport and Heath Center on Saturday. They would go on a 14-0 run to pull to within three (70-67) with 6:14 on the clock. Rollins would pull to within one on a pair of occasions but would fall short 87-84. Rollins falls to 5-4 and 0-3 in the SSC after the defeat. Barry would improve to 5-3 and 2-1 in the SSC after the win. 

 The two squads would go back and forth in the early going as the game would be knotted at 12 after a John Latimer layup at the 15:10 mark of the opening half. The game would then be tied again, this time at 19 as William Jobe scored after a Beau Frericks offensive rebound at the 9:30 mark of the opening half. The two teams traded runs before Emillis Butkus knotted the game at 28 with 4:57 until halftime. Rollins held the lead until a OT Delancey triple gave Barry a 35-34 lead with 44 ticks until halftime. Rollins would regain the lead as Frericks nailed a triple with four seconds until halftime that gave Rollins the lead 37-35 at the break. Rollins shot 43.2 percent in the opening half, 29.4 percent (5-17) from the 3-point line, and did not attempt a free throw in the stanza. For the Buccaneers they shot 40 percent from the field and 33 percent (5-15) from the 3-point line in the first stanza. Barry shot 50 percent (2-4) from the free throw line in the half. 

The teams traded buckets early in the second half before Barry opened up a seven point lead (46-39) with 16:27 to go. It was again a five point game (51-46) after a Sergey Grishaev three-point play at the 14:29 mark. A 15-3 run by the Buccaneers stretched the lead to 17 after a Sami Elkamel dunk with 11:09 to go. Rollins down 17 with 8:54 to go started to mount a comeback. Grishav, Frericks, and Butkus all scored to trim the lead to 11. After back to back triples by Latimer and Butkus and a pair of Latimer free throws it was a three point game at the 6:14 mark. Rollins got to within two on a Latimer steal and layup at the 4:30 mark. Butkus spilt a pair of free throws at the 2:18 mark and it was a one point game (78-77.) Lane made a free throw, then missed the second. He would rebound his own miss and jam it home to make it a four point lead for the home team. A steal and triple by Latimer at the 1:16 mark made it a one point game again (81-80) but that is as close as the Tars would get. Barry closes out with free throws down the stretch to get the win. 

 Rollins would led by Latimer with 24 to go along with a season high five steals, Butkus added 20, Frericks tallied 19 to go with  eight rebounds, and Grishaev added 16. Mateus Malovec led the team in rebounds with nine. Rollins shot 44.6 percent from the field, 28.6 percent (8-28) from the 3-point line, and 62.5 percent (10-16) at the free throw line. Rollins had 14 assists and 10 turnovers in the contest. 

Barry was led by Lane with 23 to go along with 11 rebounds and Malik Stanley who notched 21. Barry shot 48.5 percent from the field, 40.7 percent (11-27) from the 3-point line, and 63.2 percent (12-19) at the free throw line. The Buccaneers won the rebounding battle 43-39. They had 16 assists and 15 turnovers in this one. 

Rollins will be back in action on 12/17 when they host Flagler. Tip time is slate for 5 PM at Warden Arena.
