Rollins Heads To San Juan To Take On Rio-Piedras And Bayamon This Weekend

 The Rollins College Tars head to San Juan, Puerto Rico this weekend. Tonight (Friday)  the Tars will battle Puerto Rico Rio Piedras at 8 PM.  Rollins (5-5 0-3 SSC) is coming off a 85-79 loss to Flagler last time out. Sergey Grishaev nearly posted a double-double as he scored 22 points and pulled down nine rebounds in the loss. Beau Frericks added 17 points to go with a team high five assists, Emillis Butkus added 15, and John Latimer tallied 14. Rollins shot 45.3 percent from the field and a frigid 19 percent (4-21) from the 3-point line in the loss. They shot a solid 85 percent (17-20) from the free throw line. Rollins puts up 86 points per game on the season while they give up 79.5 per night. They shoot 48.7 percent as a team while the opposition shoots 44.1 percent from the field. The Tars shoot 36.8 percent from the 3-point line, while the opposition shoots 35.9 percent from long range. The Tars make 9.1 triples per contest while the opposition makes 9.8 treys per contest. Rollins shoots 81.8 percent as a team from the free throw line, while they out rebound the opposition by 4.7 (37.9-33.2) rebounds per night. The Tars dish out 19 assists per game and have a -0.9 turnover margin. They steal the ball 8.2 times per game and block 3.5 shots per contest. Rollins is led in scoring by Butkus who scores 17.1 points per game as he shoots 56.3 percent from the field and 44.percent from the 3-point line. Frericks adds 16.7 points per game, and dishes out 4.8 assists per contest. He leads the team in minutes played at 31.3 per contest, shoots 48.6 percent from the field, and 36.1 percent from long distance. Grishaev chips in 16.3 points per game and grabs a team leading 6.8 rebounds per contest, he also leads the team blocking one shot per game. Latimer scores 15 points per game and leads the team averaging more than two steals per contest. Latimer (90.3 percent) and Frericks (89.3) percent lead the team in free throw shooting 

 Rollins took on Puerto Rico Bayamon earlier in the season and came up with a 83-55 win. Bryant Rodriguez led the way with 12, Jeremy Matos had 11, and Victor Carillo 10 for Bayamon in that game. For the Tars John Latimer had 19, Sergey Grishaev had 17, and Ian Hart 15 in the meeting with UPRB.  

 The last time the Tars took on Rio Piedras was in the 2016 season as the Tars came away with a 112-104 win in overtime. Rollins is 7-1 all time against Rio Piedras including a current five game win streak. Rollins is 12-1 all time against Bayamon including a nine game win streak.

Tars Set To Battle Eckerd Wednesday.

 The Rollins College Tars return home to face the Eckerd College Tritons on Wednesday at Warden Arena. Marion, Silveira, Barnhizer combine for 51 in Road Loss To Florida Tech.

 Rollins College got a combined 51 points from the trio of Matheus Silveira, Kyle Marion, and Braxton Barnhizer but it was not nearly enough in a 96-73 road loss to Florida Tech at the Charles & Ruth Clemente Center. With the loss Rollins drops to 3-3 (0-1 SSC.) The Panthers improve to a perfect 6-0 on the season.   Barnhizer hit a pair of 3-pointer's in the games first 1:47 and the Tars led 6-1. Chase Thompson and Rashaan Edwards hit triples of their own to put the Panthers up 7-6. Barnhizer's third straight triple gave Rollins a 9-7 lead at the 16:55 mark of the first half. The lead was short-lived as a 3-pointer and a layup by Thompson put FIT ahead by a score of 12-9.
