Looking To Flip The Script
The Rollins College Tars head to West Palm Beach on Saturday (2/1) to take on the Palm Beach Atlantic Salfish. The Tars look to flip the script, as they have lost six straight to PBA. The game is scheduled to tip off at 4 PM from Rubin Arena with Robert Segal and Jim "Shooter" Ferro on the call on 91.5 FM WPRK Winter Park and on SunshineStateConference.TV
The Tars (12-8 5-6 SSC) have been off since Saturday when they picked up a 90-80 win over Barry. Five Rollins players scored in double figures in the win paced by Beau Frericks with 22. Emillis Butkus tallied 20, Sergey Grishaev added 13 points, eight rebounds, and six assists while Matus Malovec added 12, and Michael Niemann notched 11. Rollins shot 52.6 percent from the floor, 50 percent (13-26) from the 3-point line, and 81 percent (17-21) from the free throw line in the win.
In the first meeting with the Sailfish (lost 86-66 on 11/20/24) Grishaev scored 18, Frericks added 14, and Butkus tallied 12. In that game Rollins shot a frigid 35.8 percent from the floor and 20 percent (5-25) from the 3-point line. They shot 87 percent (13-15) from the free throw line in the contest.
Rollins holds steady as they score 85.1 points per game which is sixth in the conference and they are fifth in the SSC allowing 79.7 points per game. The Tars continue to shoot the ball well as a team as they are shooting an SSC second best 49.5 percent from the field while they continue to lead the conference in 3-point percentage (38.1 percent.) Rollins shoots 76.4 percent at the free throw line which is third best in the SSC. They are seventh in rebounding as they get 2.6 ((36.7-34.1) more rebounds than the opposition. The Tars are eighth in turnover margin (-0.80,) fifth in assist to turnover ratio (1.51,) as well as fifth in assists per game (18.1) Rollins continues to struggle guarding the 3-point line as they are 10th allowing a 36 percent 3-point percentage to the opposition. He also logs the most minutes on the Tars playing 32.9 minutes per night which is sixth in the conference. Grishaev scores 16.6 points per game and leads the team pulling down 6.3 rebounds per night. He shoots 50 percent from the field which is ninth in the SSC while he blocks an SSC sixth best 1.5 shots per game. John Latimer puts up 14.6 points per game and shoots an SSC second best 88.9 percent at the free throw line. He dishes out 3.9 assists per game which is ninth in the conference while he steals the ball 1.6 times per night.
PBA (15-5 8-4 SSC) has lost two straight. Last time out they were a 84-75 loser to Barry. Joshua Ward led the Sailfish with 19, Alvin Tumblin had 17, Jose Roberto Tanchyn added 13, and Graham Worland notched 11. PBA shot 32.5 percent from the field and went 6-37 (16.2 percent) from the 3-point line as well as shooting 76 percent (19-25) from the free throw line. In the first meeting with Rollins back in November Will Lee had 18, Ward added 13, Worland tallied 12, while Jamaal Walker and Broderick Ellis had 10 each. PBA shot 49.2 percent from the field, 34.5 percent (10-29) from the 3-point line, and 81.8 percent (18-22) from the free throw line in the win.
PBA scores an SSC seventh best 81.6 points per game while they lead the SSC allowing just 72.5 points per contest. Tumblin leads the team in blocked shots (0.8 per game) and Ward is tied for 10th in the SSC getting 1.7 steals per night. Ward is also 10th in the SSC in minutes played at 32 per contest.
