Rollins Looks To Get Back On Track In Saint Pete Wednesday
The Rollins College Tars (9-7 2-5) will look to get back on track Wednesday after a loss to Lynn last time out when they take on the Eckerd College Tritons (8-8 3-5 SSC) in Saint Pete. The game will be played at Gibbs Campus Gym in Saint Pete as the McArthur Center suffered hurricane damage. There will be no radio call on WPRK but you can still watch on SunshineStateConference.TV as tip time is set for 7:30 PM.
Rollins is coming off a 97-85 loss to Lynn on Saturday that was a tale of two halves. In the opening half Rollins held the Fighting Knights to 32 points and held a five point lead. Lynn scored 65 points in the second half to cruise to the 12 point win. Reigning SSC Defensive Player of the Week Sergey Grishaev paced the Tars with 22 points, four rebounds, and three block. He was joined in double figures by Beau Frericks (16.) while Emillis Butkus and John Latimer each had 15. Rollins shot 45.1 percent from the field, 33.3 percent (7-21) from the 3-point line and 70 percent (14-20) from the free throw line in the loss. Rollins scores 85.3 points per game which sits sixth in the SSC while they are fifth on defense allowing 79.2 points per night. Rollins continues to shoot the ball well despite a rare rough shooting night last time out. They are second in the SSC in field goal percentage (48.9 percent,) lead the conference in 3-point percentage (38.6 percent) and shoot 77.4 percent at the free throw line which is second in the conference. They are the bottom team in the conference in opponent 3-point percentage (36.4 percent,) and are seventh in rebounding margin as they get 2.8 (36.6-33.8) rebounds more than the opposition. Rollins is sixth in turnover margin (-0.06) and fifth in assist to turnover ratio (+1.51.) Frericks (seventh) and Latimer (ninth) are also top 11 in the conference in minutes played with 32.0 and 29.9 respectively.
Eckerd is coming off a 76-61 loss to Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday. Koa Baker led three Tritons in double figures with 12, Isaiah Placide had 11, and Kent Garard notched 10. Eckerd shot 41.4 percent from the field, 23.5 percent (4-17) from the 3-point line, and 47.4 percent (9-19) at the free throw line in the loss. Eckerd is the worst offensive team in the conference scoring 72.8 points per game while on defense they are giving up an SSC third best 73.9 points per night. The Tritons are near the bottom of the conference shooting 42.8 percent from the field but are third in the SSC shooting 37.4 percent from the 3-point line. They shoot an SSC seventh best 72.1 percent at the free throw line. They are sixth in the conference in 3-point percentage defense (33.8 percent,) but are third in the SSC in rebounding margin (+7.5) as they are out rebounded the opposition 38.9-31.4 on average. The Tritons are also the worst team in the SSC in turnover margin as well as assist to turnover ratio. They are also 10th in the SSC in blocked shots at 2.56 per game, 10th in assists (11.44 per contest) and last in steals (5.75) per game. Placide leads the team and is ninth in the SSC in scoring at 17.1 points per game. Garard (11.2) and Koa Baker (11.1) also average double figure points. Timothy Thompson leads the team and is fourth in the SSC grabbing 7.4 rebounds per night. Baker leads the team in assists at just under three per game while Thompson and Placide are tied for the team lead in steals at one per contest. Thompson also has a team leading 15 blocks on the year.
