Rollins Pummels Florida Tech To Open 2025 In Style!
Perhaps all the Rollins College Tars needed was a new year as they rung in 2025 with a bang. The Tars got 25 points from Emillis Butkus, Sergey Grishaev added 20, John Latimer scored 19 and pulled down a career high 10 rebounds, while Beau Frericks stuffed the stat sheet with 11 points, six rebounds, and six assists in a 92-66 pummelling of the Florida Tech Panthers on Wednesday afternoon at the Clemente Center in Melbourne. Rollins improved to 8-5 and 1-3 in the SSC with the win. The Panthers fall to 3-10 and 0-5 in the SSC following the defeat.
Rollins came out of the gates red hot as they jumped out to a quick 11-0 lead as four of the five starters scored in the games first three minutes. After a triple by Ian Hart at the 12:25 mark of the opening half the Tars had a 17-7 lead. Max Polk hit a pair of triples for the Panthers to pull them within seven (23-16) at the 8:30 mark of the first half. Donovan Brown hit a pair of free throws on the ensuing possession to cut the lead to five. Rollins stretched the lead back to double digits on a pair pf Butkus layups with 5:19 in the opening half. Rollins closed the half on a 8-0 run as Grishaev punctuated the first half with a dunk to stretch the lead to 21 (48-27) at halftime. Rollins shot a sizzling 62.5 percent from the field, 57.1 percent (4-7) from the 3-point line, and 80 percent (4-5) at the free throw line in the opening half. Tech shot 30 percent from the field, 37.5 percent (6-16) from the 3-point line, and 75 percent (3-4) from the free throw line in the opening stanza. The Panthers started the second half on a 11-0 run to get to within 10 (48-38) after Isaiah Eddens it a 3-pointer at the 17:28 mark. The Tars then made four consecutive triples as Latimer, Grishaev, Mateus Malovec, and Butkus would hit triples to make it a 60-42 Rollins lead with 14:26 on the clock. Rollins would withstand one last push from Tech as Polk hit a three at the 10:29 mark to make it 64-52. Malovec would hit another triple for the Tars, Latimer scored on a tip in and a triple, and Dylan Wolle hit a 3-ball. Rollins would cruise to the victory after that as they picked up their first conference win of the season in four tries. Rollins shot 55.7 percent from the field, 60.9 percent (14-23) from the 3-point line, and 76.9 percent (10-13) from the free throw line. Rollins won the rebounding battle 38-35. They had 13 assists and eight turnovers in the contest. The Panthers were led by 28 points from Brown while Polk added 26 as he drained a game high eight triples. The Panthers shot just 36.4 percent from the field, 40 percent (14-35) from the 3-point line, and 57.1 percent (4-7) from the free throw line. They had 13 assists and 11 turnovers in the contest.
Rollins will be back in action Saturday when they travel to the University of Tampa. Tip time is slated for 4 PM.
