Tars Battle Barry As They Look To Improve In Conference Standings
The Rollins College Tars (11-8 4-6 SSC) look to improve in the conference standings as they battle the Barry Buccaneers (8-10 4-6 SSC) on Saturday at Warden Arena inside the Alfond Sports Center. Rollins is coming off a 98-82 loss in Lakeland to #20 Florida Southern on Wednesday. Sergey Grshaev had a career high 30 points and pulled down 10 rebounds in the loss. He was joined in double figures by Beau Frericks and Emillis Butkus who each had 19. Rollins shot 50 percent from the field, 29.2 percent (7-24) from the 3-point line, and 69.2 percent (9-13) from the free throw line in the loss. Rollins scores 84.8 points per game which is sixth in the SSC while defensively they are fifth holding the opposition to 79.6 points per night. The Tars shoot an SSC second best 49.3 percent from the field while they lead the SSC shooting 37.4 percent from the 3-point line. The 8.7 made threes per contest by the Tars is third in the SSC, while they shoot free throws at an SSC third best 76.1 percent clip. On the glass Rollins is seventh in the SSC getting 1.8 ((36.3-34.5) more rebounds than the opposition. They are seventh in turnover margin (-0.32) and sixth in assist to turnover ratio (1.49.) The Tars also dish out an SSC fifth best 17.74 assists per night. On defense they are third in opponent field goal percentage (43.7 percent.) They Tats struggle guarding the 3-point line as the opposition is shooting 36.1 percent from long range which is 10th in the SSC. Rollins blocks 3.21 shots per game which seventh in the conference and they get 7.26 steals per game which is eighth in the league. Butkus and Firebricks are sixth and ninth respectively in the league in scoring as Butkus gets 18.4 per game while Frericks gets 17.1 per night. Grishave is just outside the top ten in scoring at 16.8 per game and John Latimer scores 14.6 per contest. Grishaev leads the team in rebounds grabbing 6.2 boards per night while the native of Russia shoots better than 50 percent from the field which is 10th in the SSC. Butkus leads the team in field goal percentage (55.3 percent) which is good for sixth in the conference while he continues to be one of the Tars most consistent 3-point shooters. The product of Lithuania shoots 39.4 percent from long range which is 10th in the conference. Frericks is better than that, as he shoots an SSC seventh best 40.5 percent from long distance. Butkus (2.3 per game) and Frericks (1.7) per night are top 15 in the conference in 3-pointer's made per game as well. At the free throw line Frericks shoots 89.4 percent which is second in the SSC and Latimer shoots 88.9 percent which is third in the SSC. Frericks is eighth in the conference in both assists (3.9) and assist to turnover ratio (2.0) Latimer is ninth in assists (3.9 per night) as well. Grishaev leads the team and is fifth in the conference swatting 1.5 shots per night. Latimer leads the team in steals at 1.6 per game and the Tars are led in minutes played by Frericks who plays an SSC seventh best 32.8 minutes per night.
Barry is coming off a 101-96 loss to Tampa on Wednesday night. Jimel Lane led the Bucs with 21, Gabe Hernandez had 19, Michael Bradley added 14, and Adren Roberts tallied 13. Barry shot 53.7 percent from the floor, 50 percent (9-18) from the 3-point line, and 71.4 percent (15-21) at the free throw line in the loss. Barry is eighth in the SSC scoring 78.1 points per game while they give up 84.9 points per night which is 10th in the conference. The Bucs shoot 44 percent from the field which is eighth in the SSC, 32.1 percent from long range which is ninth in the SSC, and an SSC eighth best 69.6 percent from the free throw line. On the glass Barry is eighth in conference being out rebounded by 0.2 (38.9-39.1) rebounds per night. They are 10th in turnover margin (-2.22) and ninth in assist to turnover ratio (0.99.) Barry dishes out 14.89 assists per game which is eighth in the SSC as well. They are eighth in opponent field goal percentage (44.8) and are fourth at guarding the 3-point line (33.5 percent.) Barry blocks 4.28 shots per game which is fourth in the SSC and gets 7.78 steals per contest which is seventh in the SSC. Lane leads the team in scoring at 15.4 per night (of those who qualify for conference leaders.) Malik Stanley scores 18.2 points per game but has only played six games. Hernandez rounds out the double digit scorers at 15.3 per contest. Akeem Crandon and Lane are top seven in the conference in rebounds per game. Hernandez leads the team in field goal percentage (49.5 percent) and free throw percentage (82.2 percent) which is good for eighth in the SSC. Hernandez leads the team in assists at 3.6 per game while Lane blocks 1.5 shots per game which is seventh in the SSC. Lane is fifth in the SSC in steals at 1.9 per game and Hernandez is 10th in the SSC in minutes played at 31.6 per night.
