Tars Welcome Lynn To Winter Park Saturday

 The Rollins College Tars (9-6 2-4 SSC) welcome the Lynn University Fighting Knights (9-4 4-3 SSC) to Winter Park on Saturday afternoon. The game is scheduled to tip off at 4 PM from Warden Arena inside the Alfond Sports Center. Robert Segal and Jim "Shooter" Ferro will be on the call on 91.5 FM WPRK Winter Park and on the Sunshine State Digital Network at SunshineStateConference.TV 

Rollins coming off a 72-70 win over Saint Leo at home on Wednesday. John Latimer paced the Tars with 23 points that included the game winning layup, he also added six rebounds, and four assists. Sergey Grishaev stuffed the stat sheet with 17 points, five assists, four rebounds, and blocked seven shots. Emillis Butkus rounded out the double digit scorers with 12. Rollins shot 46 percent from the field, 32 percent (8-25) from the 3-point line, and 50 percent (6-12) from the free throw line. They had 15 assists and 11 turnovers in the contest. Rollins scores an SSC sixth best 85.3 points per game while they allow an SSC fifth best 78 points per night. The Tars are second in field goal percentage (49.2 percent,) lead the conference in 3-point percentage (39 percent) and shoot an SSC second best 78 percent from the free throw line. They are fifth in field goal percentage against (43.4 percent,) and are ninth at guarding the 3-point line (36.3 percent.) The Tars are out rebounding the opposition by 3.3 (36.6-33.3) rebounds per game which is seventh in the SSC, Rollins is seventh in turnover margin (-0.33,) and sixth in the SSC in assist to turnover ratio (1.45.) Rollins got a boost from the seven blocks by Grishaev last time out as they are now sixth in the conference blocking 3.67 shots per game. The Tars are dishing out an SSC fourth best 18.33 assists per game while they steal the ball eight times per game which is seventh in the conference. Butkus leads the team and is sixth in the conference scoring 18 points per game, the junior from Lithuania shoots an SSC third best 57.3 percent from the floor and is fourth in 3-point percentage in the conference at 43.8 percent. his 2.5 made threes per game are eighth in the conference. Grishaev scores 16.5 points per game, pulls down a team leading 6.1 rebounds per night, and the St.Petersburg,Russia native blocks an SSC sixth best 1.6 shots per game. Beau Frericks scores 16.5 points per game, shoots an SSC sixth best 87.1 percent from the free throw line and dishes out 4.3 assists per night which is seventh in the conference. The Lewis transfer from Cary,Illinois also leads the team and is seventh in the SSC playing 31.9 minutes per night. Latimer scores 14.7 points per game, is fourth in the conference in free throw shooting at 88.6 percent, dishes out 4.1 assists per game which is ninth in the conference while the Apopka product gets 1.9 steals per game which is ninth in the SSC. 

 Lynn is coming off a 97-60 thrashing of Florida Tech on Wednesday. Carson Smith led the Fighting Knights with 19, Sveinn Birgisson added 16, Leo Beath netted 15, and Braydon Iuli notched 13, Lynn shot 54.3 percent from the floor, 40.6 percent (13-32) from the 3-point line, and 80 percent (8-10) from the free throw line in the win. They had 21 assists and 12 turnovers in the contest. Lynn scores an SSC fifth best 86.2 points per game on the season while they hold the opposition to an SSC second best 72.2 points per game. Lynn shoots 45.7 percent from the field which is fifth in the conference, 33.6 percent from the 3-point line which is eighth in the conference, and they are 10th in the SSC shooting 69.8 percent from the free throw line. They are 10th at guarding the 3-point line in the SSC (36.4 percent) while on the glass the Fighting Knights are sixth  with a 3.3  rebound advantage (41.8-38.5.)  Lynn is third in turnover margin (4.08) and second in assist to turnover ratio (1.98.) They are ninth in the conference in blocked shots (2.69 per game) and dish out an SSC third best 19.08 assists per contest. Beath leads the team and is ninth in the SSC scoring 16.9 points per game, Carson Smith puts up 15 per game, and Iuli tallies 12.4 per contest. Austin Vick leads Lynn in rebounding at 6.8 per night while Iuli shoots 51.5 percent from the field which is eighth in the SSC. Iuli also leads the team and is third in the SSC dishing out 5.3 assists per night while being second in the conference in assist to turnover ratio. Smith also leads the team and is top 10 in the conference in steals at 1.9 per night.

 The Rollins College Tars went down to Miami Shores and picked up their first conference win of the season as they knocked off Barry 86-79. With the win Rollins improves to 4-4 and 1-2 in the SSC. Tars Set To Battle Eckerd Wednesday.

 The Rollins College Tars return home to face the Eckerd College Tritons on Wednesday at Warden Arena. Marion, Silveira, Barnhizer combine for 51 in Road Loss To Florida Tech.

 Rollins College got a combined 51 points from the trio of Matheus Silveira, Kyle Marion, and Braxton Barnhizer but it was not nearly enough in a 96-73 road loss to Florida Tech at the Charles & Ruth Clemente Center. With the loss Rollins drops to 3-3 (0-1 SSC.) The Panthers improve to a perfect 6-0 on the season.   Barnhizer hit a pair of 3-pointer's in the games first 1:47 and the Tars led 6-1. Chase Thompson and Rashaan Edwards hit triples of their own to put the Panthers up 7-6. Barnhizer's third straight triple gave Rollins a 9-7 lead at the 16:55 mark of the first half. The lead was short-lived as a 3-pointer and a layup by Thompson put FIT ahead by a score of 12-9. Silveira and McCullough traded dunks before a Silveira jumper trimmed the Panthers lead to one (14-13) five minutes into this one.
