Moving Up The Ladder?

 The Rollins College Tars (16-10 9-8 SSC) and the Embry-Riddle Eagles (16-9 10-7 SSC) will do battle on Saturday at the ICI Center In Daytona Beach. With the Sunshine State Conference Tournament right around the corner, this game will have huge implications when it comes to seeding.  Rollins is coming off a hard fought 88-75 win over Eckerd in Winter Park on Wednesday. John Latimer paced four Tars in double figures with 22 points, Emillis Butkus and Beau Frericks both had 18, and Ian Hart netted 10 in the win. Sergey Grishaev pulled down a game high 14 rebounds to go with eight points. Rollins shot 50.7 percent from the field, 36.4 percent (8-22) from the 3-point line, and 50 percent (12-24) from the free throw line in the victory. Rollins scores an SSC sixth best 83.7 points per game while they give up an SSC fifth best 79.1 points per night. The Tars are second in the league in field goal percentage (48.8 percent) and lead the conference shooting 37.5 percent from the 3-point line. They are now third in the conference shooting at a 75 percent clip from the free throw line. Rollins is +1.3 (37.1-35.8) which is seventh in the conference in rebounding. The Tars are ninth in turnover margin (-1.38) and fourth in assist to turnover ratio (1.47.) They dish out 16.85 assists per night which is fifth in the conference as well. Rollins is now second in the conference in opponent field goal percentage (43 percent) and continue to improve at guarding the 3-point line where they are now fourth (33.7 percent.) The Tars block 3.19 shots per game which is seventh in the league and get 6.12 steals which is good for ninth in the SSC. Butkus is seventh in scoring (18.2 points per game) while Frericks is ninth in the league scoring 16.9 points per night. Grishaev (15.4 per game) and Latimer (15 per night) also average double figures. Grishaev leads the team and is top 10 in the conference in rebounding at 7.2 per game as well. Butkus shoots 53 percent from the floor which is fifth in the SSC while Frericks is eighth shooting 50.7 percent. Frericks is also second in the conference in 3-point percentage (42.6 percent) and shoots free throws at 85.7 percent which is fifth in the SSC. His teammate Latimer is third in the SSC shooting 86.7 percent from the free throw line. Frericks also leads the team in assists (3.8) which is eighth in the SSC, and is 10th in the conference in assist to turnover ratio (1.8.) Grishaev blocks 1.5 shots per game which is fifth in the SSC and Latimer leads the team getting 1.6 steals per contest. Frericks is fifth in the SSC in minutes played at 33.2 per contest. In the first meeting with ERAU (a 87-81 overtime win on 1/18) Frericks had 26, Latimer added 20, and Butkus tallied 19. A win on Saturday would give the Tars the tiebreaker over ERAU. In that first meeting Rollins shot 47.4 percent from the floor, 25 percent (5-20) from the 3-point line, and 80 percent (28-35) from the free throw line. 

ERAU is coming off an 82-50 drubbing of Palm Beach Atlantic last time out. Dru Nickson paced the Eagles with 22, Michael McCallister added 15, and Milan Skoric chipped in 12. The Eagles shot 50.8 percent from the field, 52.2 percent (12-23) from the 3-poiint line, and 54 percent (6-11) at the free throw line .ERAU scores an SSC fifth best 86.2 points per game while they give up an SSC seventh best 82 points per contest. The Eagles shoot 45.6 percent from the floor (fifth SSC,) 32.9 percent from the 3-point line (ninth SSC) and 70.8 percent from the free throw line (eighth SSC.) The Eagles are the top rebounding team in the conference as they get 10.2 more rebounds than the opposition (44.1-33.9.) They are eighth in turnover margin (-1.00) and sixth in assist to turnover ratio (1.34.) They dish out 15.32 assists per game which is seventh in the SSC as well. On defense the Eagles are eighth in field goal percentage against (45.1) and second in the SSC at guarding the 3-point line (32.6 percent.) They swat an SSC third best 4.12 shots per game and steal the ball 6.56 times per game which is eighth in the SSC. Nickson leads the team in scoring at 14.8 points per game, he is joined in double figures by McCallister (12.6 per night,) Yassin Hussein (12 per night,) Jerry Bracey (10.8 per contest) and Jarred Berry (10.1 per night.) Hussein leads the team in rebounding (6.2 per game) while Nickson dishes out a team leading and SSC seventh best four assists per night. Nickson is also fourth in the SSC in assist to turnover ratio (2.7.) Pierre Clarens leads the Eagles and is 10th in the SSC blocking 1.2 shots per night while Josh Ward leads the team with 1.6 steals per contest. Ward is also seventh in the league in minutes played (32.1 per night.) In the los to the Tars Skoric had 16, Hussein added 14, and McCallister and Nickson each tallied nine. The Eagles shot 38.2 percent from the field, 32.1 percent (9-28) from the 3-point line, and 74.1 percent (20-27) at the free throw line.
