Nickson And ERAU Outlast Tars
It is not March yet, but everything about Saturday's matchup between the Embry-Riddle Eagles and Rollins College Tars on Saturday gave March vibes at the ICI Center in Daytona Beach. The crowd was engaged all night and ultimately the Eagles behind the sharp shooting of Dru Nickson outlasted the Tars 90-87. With the win the Eagles improved to 17-9 and 11-7 in the SSC. Rollins fell to 16-11 and 9-9 in the SSC.
The Eagles jumped out to a 7-0 lead after a Nickson layup more than two minutes in. Rollins went on a 8-0 run of their own as a John Latimer triple gave the Tars a 8-7 lead in the early stages of this one. ERAU would then go on a 16-3 run to take a 23-10 lead after a Dawson Barr three at the 12:50 mark of the first half. The lead again swelled to double digits on a Logan Lewis layup with 8:38 until halftime. Rollins ran off the next seven points and a Latimer three-point play made it 34-30 ERAU with seven minutes until halftime. After being down 11 at the 15:21 mark Rollins got a pair of threes to get within five. Rollins kept battling and Sergey Grishaev tied the game on a dunk at the 8:21 mark. The two teams went back and forth a little bit until Latimer made a runner and was fouled. He converted the free throw to make it 81-79 ERAU with 4:32 to go. Grishaev tied the game on a pair of free throws 15 second later. Nickson would hit four straight free throws but Rollins had the answer. Butkus hit two free throws and a triple to put Rollins up 86-85 after a trey with 1:51 on the clock. Milan Skoric hit a pair of free throws to put the Eagles back on top.
