Taking Care Of Business. Tars Back In Win Column

The Rollins College Tars came into Wednesday's home game with Eckerd needing a win and they did just that with a 88-75 win over Eckerd at Warden Arena to snap a brief two game losing streak. John Larimer paced the Tars with 22, Beau Frericks and Emillis Butkus each tallied 18, and Ian Hart tallied 10 in the win. Sergey Grishaev led the team with 14 rebounds. With the win Rollins improved to 16-10 and 9-8 in the SSC. Eckerd falls to 11-15 and 6-12 in the SSC. "Any win in this league is a good win," Rollins assistant coach Kyle Frakes mentioned in his on court interview postgame.

Both teams were slow getting started on offense in the early going before a 3-pointer by Wyatt Triestman got Eckerd on the board. It was quickly answered by a Grishaev triple. Rollins would open up a six point lead (12-6) as Frericks made a layup off an offensive rebound by Hart with 15:21 until halftime. The next six points went to EC to tie the game. Before you knew it Rollins was again up six (19-13) after a Frericks layup with 10:52 left in the half. Again EC would battle back and knot the game at 23 after another Triestman 3-ball at the 7:02 mark of the half. Behind the hot shooting of Latimer Rollins would go up nine (34-25) as he hit a 3-pointer with 4:58 until halftime. Rollins would end up taking a six point lead (41-35) into halftime. Rollins shot 45.7 percent in the first half, 37.5 percent (6-16) from the 3-point line, and made all three free throws in the opening 20 minutes. Eckerd shot 38.7 percent from the field, 26.7 percent (4-15) from the 3-point line, and 46.7 percent (7-15) from the free throw line in the opening frame.

After Eckerd cut into the lead a little bit early in the second half Hart knocked down his second triple of the contest at the 18 minute mark to make it a 50-41 lead for the home team. That lead would evaporate in the next six plus minutes as the Tritons tied the game at 57 as Isaiah Placide made a three at the 11:57 mark. Dylan Wolle would hit a three to give Rollins a brief lead but Placide tied the game, this time at 62 with a three with 9:42 to go. Frericks quickly gave Rollins the lead back with a layup. After jumpers by Butkus and Hart along with a pair of Frericks free throws Rollins lead 70-64 with 6:29 to go. Rollins went on a 8-0 run that all but sealed this one with 4:44 on the clock. A quick 5-0 run by the Tritons gave them life at the 3:11 mark but Rollins did just enough to close this one out down the stretch. Rollins shot 50.7 percent from the field, 36.4 percent (8-22) from the 3-point line, and 50 percent (12-24) from the free throw line in the contest. They were also +16 on points in the paint (44-28) and +11 (20-9) on fast break points. The Tars had 12 assists and three turnovers in the win.

For Eckerd Placide paced the Tritons with 22, Triestman added 19, and Timothy Thompson tallied 15 to go with 11 rebounds. They shot 37.1 percent from the floor, 25 percent (8-32) from the 3-point line, and 55.6 percent (15-27) from the free throw line. Eckerd won the rebounding battle 48-42. They had 13 assists and four turnovers in the loss.
