Tars Hit The Road Looking To Start New Streak
The Rollins College Tars (15-9 8-7 SSC) look to start a new win streak on Saturday (2/15) as they travel to Boca Ration to take on the Lynn University Fighting Knights (15-7 10-6 SSC) at the De'Hoernle Center. The Tars were held to 65 points and lost for the first time in three weeks on Wednesday at Saint Leo. Beau Frericks paced three Tars in double figures with 21 points, Emillis Butkus netted 18, and Sergey Grishaev chipped in 12. Rollins shot 43.9 percent from the field, 36 percent (9-25) from the 3-point line, and 66.7 percent (6-9) from the free throw line in the loss. Rollins scores an SSC sixth best 83.5 points per game while they are fifth on defense, giving up 78.7 points per night. The Tars are second in the SSC in field goal percentage (48.7 percent) and lead the league in 3-point percentage (38 percent.) They shoot free throws at 75.9 percent which is also second in the conference, on the boards they are sixth with a 2.1 (37-34.9) rebound advantage. Rollins is ninth in turnover margin (-1.25) and fourth in assist to turnover ratio (1.45.) The Tars are fifth in the league averaging 17.2 assists per night. They are third in opponent field goal percentage (43.4 percent) from two and 34.5 percent guarding the 3-point line (34.5 percent.) Rollins blocks an SSC sixth best 3.25 shots per game and is eighth in steals getting 6.48 per night. Butkus (18.3 points per game is seventh in the conference) while Frericks 16.8 points per game is ninth in the league. Grishaev (15.9 points per night) and John Latimer (14.5 points per game) are also top 20 in the league in scoring. Frericks (3.8) and Latimer (3.5) are eighth and ninth in assists per game in the league, while they are both are 10th in the conference in assist to turnover ratio (1.7.) Grishaev rejects 1.5 shots per game which is fifth in the conference, Latimer leads the team in steals (1.6 per game) which is 12th in the league, and Frericks is fifth in minutes played at 33.1 per night. In the first meeting with Lynn (A 97-85 loss on 1/11) Grishaev had 22, Frericks notched 16, while both Latimer and Butkus contributed 15. Rollins shot 45.1 percent from the field, 33.3 percent (7-21) from the 3-point line, and 70 percent (14-20) from the free throw line in the defeat.
Lynn is coming off a 98-70 thrashing on Florida Tech on Wednesday. Six Fighting Knights scored in double figures. Osei Price (22,) Jordan Wilkins (20,) Leo Beath (14,) Carson Smith (13,) Svein Birgisson (12,) and John Roland (10.) Beath secured a triple-double that night as he added 14 rebounds and 11 assists, while Price tallied nine assists as well. They shot 51.4 percent as a team, 43.2 percent (16-37) from the 3-point line, and 66.7 percent (6-9) at the free throw line. Lynn scores an SSC fourth best 87.6 points per game while they allow an SSC second best 75.6 points per night. The Fighting Knights shoot an SSC sixth best 45.6 percent from the field and an SSC fifth best 35.7 percent from the 3-point line. At the free throw line they shoot an SSC sixth best 71.6 percent. Beath leads Lynn and is eighth in the conference scoring 17.8 points per game, Smith (16.5) and Braydon Iuli (12.8) are also in the top 25 in the SSC in scoring. Beath is third in rebounding pulling down 8.8 per game, Iuli is eighth in the SSC in field goal percentage (52.4 percent,) Wilkins is fourth in 3-point percentage (43.4 percent,) Wilkins is also third in the SSC in 3-point field goals per game (2.9,) Iuli is third in the conference in assists per game (5.1,) along with being second in assist to turnover ratio at 3.0. Smith is sixth in steals at 1.9 per contest. In the first meeting between the two teams Beath had 27, Smith (13,) Price and Wilkins each had 12, while Noah Kattan added 11. The Fighting Knights shot 50 percent from the field, 37.8 percent from the 3-point line (14-37) and 85 percent (17-20) from the free throw line.
