Iraldi and Defense Lift NSU To National Title!

MJ Irlaldi hit two free throws with less than 17 seconds left to go but it was an unlikely source that lifted the Sharks (36-1) to the national title. NSU's offense had averaged more than 100 points per game but it was the defense that got one last stop to seal the 74-73 win at the Ford Center in Evansville and the second Nova Southeastern title in the past three years years. Iraldi who already had the SSC Player Of the Year award added Most Outstanding Player of the DII Tournament to his trophy case. Iraldi had 27 points, Tyler Eberhart added 13, and Dallas Graziani notched 13 to go with nine assists in the contest. Nova got the win despite shooting 38.1 percent from the field, 14.3 percent (3-21) from the 3-point line, and 76 percent (19-25) at the free throw line. The Sharks also won the rebounding battle 40-39. They had 11 assists and 12 turnovers in the contest.

Jeremy Dent-Smith led Cal State Dominguez Hills (30-6) with 27 points and 10 rebounds before fouling out in the games last 81 seconds, David Cheatom added 15, and Adam Afifi scored nine in the defeat. The Toros shot 46 percent from the field, 28.6 percent (6-21) from the 3-point line, and 75 percent (9-12) from the free throw line. They had six assists and 16 turnovers in the contest.
