Second Half Woes Persist As Rollins Bounced In SSC Quarterfinals.

 For the second straight meeting with the Florida Southern College Mocs the Rollins College Tars hung for one half with the team that was ranked third in the latest South Region Rankings. For the second straight time the Tars could not keep up with the Mocs in the second half. Ultimately it was a 90-69 win for Florida Southern at Streamline Court inside the Jenkins FieldHouse. With the win the Mocs improve to 24-7 and advanced to a meeting at home with the Fighting Nights of Lynn University in Thursday's Semifinals. The Tars season comes to a close with a 16-14 record. 

Rolins scored the first six points of the contest as three of the five Tars started scored in the games first two and a half minutes. The Mocs would get going on the offensive end and after a Jadin Booth basket tie the game at eight. After Beau Frericks made a pair of free throws and a John Latimer dunk Rollins held a 12-8 edge with 14:23 in the opening half. The game would again be tied at 16 after Dominick Denny scored for FSC with 10:50 until halftime. Rollins led by three on a pair of occasions but Booth knocked down another trey to knot the game at 24 with 7:55 in the opening half. The two teams were on the see-saw until Emillis Butkus nailed a triple to give Rollins a 33-29 edge with 4:42 left in the half. That lead would disappear in less than a minute. Frerikcs knocked down a Rollins three and Booth hit. a pair of free throws along with a jumper. Rollins got a tip in by William Jobe to tie the game at 40. Rollins would have a chance to take a lead into the locker room but would have to settle for a 40-40 tie as the two teams headed to their respective locker rooms. Rollins shot 47.2 percent in the opening half, 30.77 percent (4-13) from the 3-point line, and hit both free throws they attempted. For the Mocs they shot 41.18 percent in the first half, 20 percent (3-15) from the 3-point line, and 90 percent (9-10) from the free throw line in the opening stanza. 

 Butkus hit a three 15 seconds into the second half but it was all Mocs after that. A Peyton Gerald dunk would make it a five point lead (50-45) for FSC. Rollins was only down two (53-51) after a Matus Malovec free throw but the Mocs would then stretch the lead to 16 (70-54) as Alex Steen would score  with 8:04 to go. The Mocs led by as many as 24 as the Mocs advanced to the SSC semifinals., 

 Rollins was paced by Butkus who scored 17, Frericks added 16, Sergey Grishaev tallied 15, and Latimer netted 13 in the loss. Rollins shot 40.3 percent from the floor (32.26 percent second half,) 23.1 percent (6-26) from the 3-point line, and 60 percent (9-15) at the free throw line. The Tars had 14 assists and 11 turnovers in the contest. 

For the Mocs Booth led the way with 24, Steen tallied 18 to go with 11 rebounds, Gerald scored 16, and Denny scored 13. The Mocs shot 47.9 percent from the field, 26,7 percent (8-30) from the 3-point line, and 73.7 percent (14-19) from the free throw line. The Mocs won the rebounding battle 44-36. They had 18 assists and six turnovers in the contest.
